NO SUCH THING AS TOO MUCH ANNIVERSARY CAKE!
In life there’s no such thing as too much cake … even when it’s faux cake!
Stark State’s 50th anniversary cake, a can’t-miss 40 inches tall and a whopping 60 pounds, is made up of three layers – 32 inches, 24 inches and 16 inches. The cake topper is 10 inches in diameter and sports the College’s classy 50th anniversary logo.
The eye-catching centerpiece was crafted locally by Jo Lash, using a recipe of foams, epoxies, silicone, rubbers, salt dough, resins, paints and caulking. Stark State’s cake was the largest item she’s produced, she said. For more info about the fake food biz, visit MyAbbysAttic.com.
The cake, when not making an appearance as the centerpiece of other 50th anniversary events, is being displayed in the first floor foyer of the Health Sciences Building.
ANNIVERSARY KICK OFF EVENT IN COURTYARD
Stark State College kicked off its 50th anniversary celebration this week with festivities in the sunny courtyard on two days in September.
Thousands of students, staff and faculty came together to toss corn hole beanbags, sign up for the chance to win cool merchandise, savor some burgers and ‘dogs at great prices and enjoy music both mellow and funky as they chowed down on delicious birthday cake and gold (chocolate) coins. Student groups took advantage of the opportunity to spread the word about their organizations.
HALL OF FAME BALLOONFEST 2010
The Stark State College Happy 50th hot air balloon was the largest balloon in the 2010 Canton Chamber Balloon Classic … and also a huge hit with everyone. People couldn’t stop talking about “the cake.”
See below for a wonderful video featuring our balloon ride winners and their comments. Congratulations to our ride contest winners who enjoyed the experience of a lifetime: Martha Doerr, Contract Training; Janet Duncan, Business Office; David Harris, IT adjunct, and Cathy Mueller, financial aid
The video also shows some of the dedicated volunteers who helped give away more than 12,000 stress balls with the 50th anniversary imprint at the Jackson-Belden Food Fest. It was a fun weekend and we certainly got the word out about the many exciting things happening at Stark State College!
