PTK Chapter Activities
Better World
Books
This organization is a
self-supporting social venture that seeks to fund local and worldwide literacy
initiatives by running book drives on college campuses. They send books to
students in Africa, support scholarships for young women in Southeast Asia, or
send books to literacy centers and libraries affected by Hurricane Katrina. Our
chapter will receive $.50 for each book that meets the criteria for a
"qualifying book." A qualifying book can be any college textbook with a
publication date no older than 5 years. This project is already in place at our
campus bookstore. All faculty, staff, and students are encouraged to place their
no-value books in the large green and white "Book Drive" box located outside the
campus bookstore after each buy-back period. Phi Theta Kappa members will box
the books and label them for shipment at the end of each semester.
