BE THE POWER!

2007 International Convention - Nashville, TN

Greetings Fellow Phi Theta Kappans,

April is coming up fast and that means it will soon be time for the Phi Theta Kappa International Convention. This year the convention will be held in Nashville, TN at the Gaylord Convention Center which is right next door to the Grand Ole Opry House. Next to that is Opry Mills Mall, an enormous

shopping delight featuring a plethora of stores, restaurants, and entertainment venues. The main anchor store is a huge Pro Bass Shop that offers all of your outdoor sporting needs.

The Convention Theme is “Be the Power” and it will focus on our Honors Study Topic, “Gold Gods and Glory, the Global Dynamics of Power.” To celebrate these topics the speakers include:

Sue Smith, National Director of Education for Keep America Beautiful, Inc. Her presentation goes along with our International Service Project.

Country singer Kevin Sharp, who is a cancer survivor. His presentation will focus on Phi Theta Kappa’s commitment to support the American Cancer Society to find a cure.

Jehan Sadat, internationally known Middle Eastern activist for peace. Her husband, Anwar Sadat, President of Egypt, was assassinated after he made peace with Israel.

Former Vice President Al Gore. I do not believe he needs any introduction.

The convention runs from Thursday, April 12th through Saturday, April 14th. There will be several general sessions which includes the speakers, election of new international officers, and, of course, the formal dinner, and Hallmark Awards presentations. There is a cost for your transportation, lodging, and convention registration. All of the information for the convention is located at www.ptk.org or you may contact Cherie Barth at 330-494-6170 ext. 4237

If you would like to do some sight seeing, you will need to arrive a day early as the convention will take up most of your time, however, it is well worth the trip. My first experience with the

International Convention came last year in Seattle, WA. What a time it was! There is nothing like the first time you walk into the electric atmosphere of the convention center with music blaring and 4,000 fellow Phi Theta Kappan’s all engaged in fellowship and reveling in the party atmosphere!

This year will be a special treat for me, as my daughter lives in Clarksville, TN, and I will be

stopping to see her along the way, then, on to Nashville! If you decide to attend with the chapter, your trip to Nashville will be well worth the effort, I guarantee it!

                                                                                Hope to see you there!

                                                                                Dave Sigmund

P.S. Feel free to talk to me about the International Convention any time.
