Description: Reporting to the Provost, the Dean provides leadership to the Corporate Services and Continuing Education Division of the College with responsibility for the development and growth of business partnerships, economic development initiatives, workforce training, corporate services, and continuing education. The Dean ensures that concise and customized courses are offered and delivered to the community. These courses both complement the offerings of the degree-focused divisions of the College and address the needs of the community. By managing all aspects of this enterprise, including research, development, delivery, networking and quality assurance, the Dean ensures that sufficient revenues are collected by the division to offset and/or exceed the costs of delivery and administration. These revenues are generated through the sales of customized courses and registration fees from open enrollment courses in addition to grants received.
Primary Responsibilities: 1) Building strategic business and industry partnerships across the full range of Stark County industries including manufacturing companies, health care providers and educational institutions; facilitating discussions with employers to determine needs and workforce skill sets; and serving as the College salesperson for non-credit and credit customized training and continuing education.
2) Assessing business and industry needs by identifying new markets and leading in new product development including on-site credit offerings and customized training; utilizing faculty expertise and integrating faculty capabilities to align the educational training capacity of the whole college with the new markets and the strategic direction of the community, the region, and the state; building a world class workforce that enhances access and training at the non-credit level leading to certificates and degrees on the credit level through stackable credentials; and integrating the Corporate Services and Continuing Education Division’s distinctive products into the offerings in Academic Affairs while maintaining the highest level of academic quality.
3) Developing and sustaining positive strategic and working relationships with multiple entities to advance the mission of the institution and workforce and economic development of the region. Entities include state government such as the Ohio Skills Bank, Department of Job and Family Services; regional organizations such as MAGNET and Nortech and local government and community groups such as county and city departments, workforce investment boards, the Chamber of Commerce, including the Synchronist program, the Stark Development Board, business leaders, and economic development groups.
4) Engaging with the Executive Staff and the Deans in the strategic direction of the College and collaborating effectively with other divisions to develop sales presentations, market products, and serve clients in a comprehensive manner.
5) Leading and managing the Corporate Services and Continuing Education division’s personnel and activities by directing the short and long range strategic plans of the division to parallel the growth and quality trends (Academic Quality Improvement Plan) of the whole college; establishing the Corporate Services and Continuing Education Division as a profit center, including auditing the financial efficacy of course offerings; communicating college activities, plans, decisions and events to division faculty, staff, and students; integrating E-learning into the divisional offerings; establishing operating procedures for the division; and maintaining liaison relationship with other divisions and departments of the college on matters pertaining to academic programs, physical assets and facilities.
6) Initiating grant projects from conceptual stage through evaluation and researching and generating external funding.
Requirements: The qualified candidate has a master’s degree with a commitment to a doctorate program. Requires a minimum of ten years combined experience in an academic or corporate setting. Experience must demonstrate manifest skills in sales, outreach, and academic program development and implementation including emerging technologies. Requires experience with business and industry and in the delivery and supervision of customized training, management of personnel and budgets, and in securing grant funding. Must be familiar with Stark County and Northeast Ohio business, industry, and community. Requires effective team building and communication skills, strategic decision making capability, maintaining customer service focus and the ability to build partnerships.
