Massage Therapy Certificate of Competency and Review
Stark State College is an approved provider for the online Certificate of Competency and review course for both the Anatomy and Physiology and Limited Branch portions of the State Medical Board Requirement for Massage Therapy.
Please note: if you have previously failed both sections of the Medical Board exam you will need BOTH certificates in order to apply for licensure after you receive a passing score on the Federation of Massage Therapy Schools exam (MBLEx).
The courses for both the A&P and Limited Branch allow those who need the Certificate of Competency to earn it completely online. Each course last a total of ten weeks. Each course is offered through Stark State College every fall and spring semester. Contact the Program Coordinator for actual starting dates.
The A&P review content:
The content of the A&P review is based on the core curriculum document from the Ohio State Medical Board that outlines the knowledge that is testable material. The ten week online course covers the entire Tortora textbook. Comprehensive power point and other presentations and links will guide you through the course. The course is monitored by a professor with a PhD in Physiology. She will communicate with you via email and answer and questions you might have. The required text is the current Tortora text.
The Limited Branch Course:
The content of the Limited Branch course follows the core curriculum document provided by the Ohio Medical Board as content that all entry level massage therapists should know. The comprehensive 10 week online course provides power point presentations, links and case studies to apply your knowledge. The required text is Theory and Practice of Therapeutic Massage by Mark Beck- current edition.
Both courses are three credit hours. Please review the College’s current tuition and fee rates along with current payment options and refund schedules. Fees may be paid in installments – please contact registration to make that arrangement.
If the student is taking the course to obtain the Certificate of Competency, they must earn a “B” average (80%) in the course to get the certificate. Upon successful completion of the course, applicants will receive their certificate and are eligible to apply for licensure once a passing score is achieved on the Federation of Massage Therapy Schools exam (MBLEx).
