Distance Learning at Stark State College

Distance Learning Courses Offered
“Distance education can help all Americans—including
workers, parents, people in rural communities and people with
disabilities—go to college by removing barriers of time and place through
innovative technology.”
– Richard Riley, U.S. Secretary of Education
(1993-2001) |
What is Distance Learning?
Distance learning is an Internet-based instruction, including the
technological advances of computers and the Web. This new paradigm of
education through the use of technology has expanded the role of both the
instructor and the student in the mastery of topics and skills.
The concept of distance learning by no
means is new. The original distance education model—the correspondence
course—was |

established in the late 1800s.
However, because of the growth and acceptance of the Internet, the
technological revolution in education has provided opportunities for
distance education to take on a universal view. Distance Learning and the Distance Learning Student
Distance learning provides the opportunity for students who may not have
the proper means of education available to them. Via the Internet and
developed course curriculum, students can access their own education at any
time of the day or night. However, distance learning is not for everyone.
The distance learning student must take responsibility for his/her own
learning. Self-discipline, self-motivation, and self-direction are crucial
for distance learning. To see if you are a prime candidate for a distance
