EnviroFun 2008
Thursday, March 20, 2008 – 7:30 a.m. - 3 p.m.

EnviroFun 2008 was designed to spark the imagination of high school and middle school students and to generate an interest in a college education leading to a variety of challenging and rewarding environmental and engineering occupations. Stark State College of Technology (SSCT), in conjunction with the Stark-Tuscarawas-Wayne Joint Solid Waste Management District hosts and designs this special event to ensure that students and mentors are exposed to areas of environmental technology, engineering technology and related fields.

Approximately 220 students, faculty and staff from five (5) area high schools and middle schools attended the event. Participating schools included:

  • Fairless High School
  • Garaway Middle School
  • Jackson High School
  • Portage Collaborative Montessori School
  • Timken Senior High School

Students attending EnviroFun 2008 participated in five (5) break-out sessions covering the following:

  • Alternative Energy Sources – Fuel Cell Technology and Bio-Fuel Technology
  • Hazardous Material and Emergency Response (HAZMAT)
  • Landfill Design – students constructed edible landfills
  • Water Sampling and Analysis
  • Water Quality Protection

In addition to presentations, students could visit any of eight (8) exhibitor booths. Exhibitors included:

  • SSCT – Environmental, Health and Safety Technology
