Medical
informatics is the intersection of information science, medicine and health
care. It deals with the resources, devices and methods required to optimize
the acquisition, storage, retrieval and use of information in health and
medicine. Informatics tools include not only computers but also clinical
guidelines, formal medical terminologies, and information and communication
systems. A degree in medical informatics provides students with expertise
needed to evaluate information, organize it efficiently, index it for
retrieval and preserve it for history. Students gain an understanding of
information behavior and policy, learn effective procedures for
implementation and assessment of information systems and develop strategies
for enhancing user satisfaction in the information-seeking process. A degree
in medical informatics enables students to seek positions where data,
systems and people come together. |
