Burnout and the Social Service Worker
The choice is: do you take a wonderful weekend in Toronto (and feel guilty about the exchange rate) or do you come to the “burn out” seminar for a delightful pursuit of “painless” CEUs? Decisions, decisions! Bruce Smith, with his colorful charts and stimulating group discussions, leads this creative romp in pursuit of our restored sanity. Please bring an example of your favorite stress-reducing hobby or activity and your favorite vacation get-away to share with the group. This promises to be a fun and informative day, may not be substituted for your current selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor.
(Also approved by BENHA for 6 contact hours.)

Generations in the Workplace
With workers from four generations now active in the workforce, the potential for misunderstanding, frustration and conflict puts increasing pressure on productivity. To turn that challenge into a competitive advantage, this program applies the M.E.E.T. approach (Make time to discuss; Explore differences; Encourage respect; Take personal responsibility) to the complexities of effectively working in and managing a multi-age workforce. Employees and managers gain insights, strategies and skills that help minimize generational conflict and strengthen collaboration.

Bullying and Cyberbullying: Dynamics, Intervention, and Recovery
Bullying has increasingly been highlighted in the news in recent decades, especially in the aftermath of school or mall shootings in which the shooter is so often a former victim of bullying. There is also increasing publicity given to various forms of cyberbullying, which was implicated in a 2007 suicide. We will discuss how bullying works, socially and emotionally. We will examine the tools and dynamics of cyberbullying and coping strategies in three areas: preventing bullying, responding to bullying as it happens, and treating emotional harm after it happens. Finally, we will be sharing stories, talking of issues and cases, doing exercises in bullying prevention and response.

When Life Changes
Many of the individuals we are privileged to work with have experienced a life change and are in a transitional phase of their lives. Change may be due to death, divorce, mental illness, health concerns, family dynamics, relocation, loss of income or change in status, to name a few. We cannot choose whether we experience loss and change, but we can choose how we will respond. This workshop will explore different aspects of loss, the needs and fears of those facing illness, and elements of healthy coping to help someone move toward positive adjustment for a purposeful and meaningful life.

Games and Other Play Therapies
One of the ways to connect with children, to learn about them and help them grow in psychotherapy is to play with them. Luckily, it’s fun and it’s what most kids do well. But play is more than fun, and can involve so much more than dolls, clay, blocks, and art supplies. You will discover various types and functions of play in therapy. We will give special attention to the use of games, along with more traditional expressive/enacting play therapies.
