The College was awarded $3.35 million in state Third Frontier funds to construct a Fuel Cell Prototyping Center for fuel cell development on the campus. Of
the total funds, $2 million is from a Wright Capital Project Fund grant and
the remaining $1.35 million is part of an $18 million Wright Center of
Innovation grant recently received for the Wright Fuel Cell Group, an
effort directed by Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) in Cleveland, a
world leader in fuel cell research.
Construction of the $4.7 million Center
was supported by a $625,000 grant from the Ohio Board of Regents, $250,000 from the State of Ohio
and $550,000 from the College. Funds
to equip the Center came from a $497,050 grant from the U.S. Department of
Education and $214,703 from the U.S. Department of Labor.
The College also received $780,000 from the
National Science Foundation for a Fuel Cell Technology Curriculum Development
Project, taking total grants generated for fuel cell activity on the campus
to more than $6.2 million.
The construction of this Center positions Stark
State as a leader to support the research, development and commercialization
of fuel cells. The Center will function as a pre-production facility that
will serve as a bridge between research and the marketplace. The College’s
first tenant in the new Center will be Alliance-based SOFCo-EFS Holdings.
