Stark
State students receive civil engineering awards in regional competition
Eight Stark State civil
engineering students took part in three events at the recent Ohio Valley
Regional Competition, sponsored by the American Society of Civil
Engineers (ASCE). Students received awards in two events and placed near
the top in the third.
Tim Beckley of North
Canton and Joe Scheibe of Canton were awarded first place in aesthetics
for their entry in the concrete Frisbee competition. Adam Kral, a
resident of Hartville, placed third overall in the AutoCAD event.
“I'm very proud of these
eight students who, in a very short time frame, exerted a great deal of
effort to compete and win against several four year institutions," said
Geoff Wopershall, Stark State civil engineering instructor and Stark
State ASCE chapter advisor. "It was impressive to see some of Stark
State's finest utilize their engineering know-how and enjoy every minute
of it."
Other competing Stark
State students include; Matt Gibbons, Alliance; Rachel Gruic, Norton;
Tim Keller, Canton; Ryland Pierce, Akron; and Matt Schaar, Bolivar.
Fourteen two- and
four-year colleges and universities competed in this year’s regional
competition.
