Elaine Anderson-Jackson, BASW, LSW, MS
A social worker in Canton with over twenty years experience, Elaine is an adjunct instructor at Starki State College and also works part-time for the Stark County District Library.  She has extensive experience in nursing homes as a social worker consultant, as well as public health, mental health, child protection, and personal family issues related to chronic illness and disability. 

Art Baughman
Art has over 30 years experience in the machining and welding industries and has been a metal fabrication instructor at Canton South High School since 1993.  Before serving as president of his own machining company, Art worked for Babcock & Wilcox, Perkins Diesel, and Canton Tool Manufacturing Company.  He is a member of the American Welding Society, the American Vocational Association and Vocational Industrial Clubs of America.

Darleen S. Beaver, LSW
Darleen Beaver is an independent trainer with a diverse background in social services.  She has served as training officer for the Cuyahoga County Department of Human Services, has supervised and coordinated staff training and has conducted Home Day Care provider training.  Darleen has presented training workshops at numerous local and state conferences.

Christina Berardinelli, MA, BSN, RN, PCC
Ms. Berardinelli has practiced nursing for over ten years in an inpatient and outpatient setting with children, adolescents and adults.  She is currently a psychiatric nurse at Crossroads in Lake County, assisting with psychopharmacological assessment.  Christina has presented seminars at John Carroll University and Case Western Reserve’s Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences.

Patti Bertschler, LPCC
A founding partner of Northcoast Conflict Solutions, Patti speaks extensively throughout Ohio on topics related to behavioral health and conflict I the workplace.  Patti is a licensed clinical counselor, trained mediator, and has worked for Parma Hospital’s Behavioral Center for Older Adults and at Windsor Behavioral Health Center in Chagrin Falls.  She is co-author of Truce! Using Elder Mediation to Resolve Conflicts Among Families, Seniors and Organizations.

Stephanie Bradford, ACSW, LISW
Ms. Bradford is a social worker at Nova Behavioral Health and serves on the state board of the NASW Committee on Inquiry.  She is an adjunct professor at Malone College.

Terri Brown
Terri has been a project manager at RBB Systems in Shreve for the past 12 years.  Prior to that she was a project engineer at ASC Industries and Admiral Equipment.  Terri has over 20 years writing PLC and computer programming for production equipment.

Lilli-ann Buffin, MSW, LSW 
Lilli-ann Buffin has been an expert trainer in child-related areas for over 14 years.  She has a master's degree in social work from the University of Pittsburgh, where her specialty area of concentration was services to children and families.  She has presented numerous courses and workshops at colleges and universities throughout Ohio and across the country.  Lilli-ann has her own consulting and training firm, New Developments Family Enrichment Services.

Frank Bulbeck, PE
A professional engineer in Ohio Indiana and Michigan, Frank has 35 years experience in the design, construction and operation of chemical plants.  He has worked extensively in the USA and overseas.  Most recently he was employed as Engineering Manager for Washington Group International in Cleveland, Ohio.

Tony Bumbalis
Anthony Bumbalis has over 30 years experience in the construction industry.  Currently a registered professional engineer with several state certifications, he is soon to be an international code council master building official. He has worked in  urban, suburban and rural areas as a builder, contractor and code official.  Tony has served on several national & international code development committees, and currently is serving on the ICC property maintenance and zoning code committees. He presently contracts with several building departments and private consults to providing code related services and is knowledgeable about not only individual codes but about how all the codes fit together in the big picture.

Susan Bussard
Susan is an educational audiologist for Stark County Local Schools and has been teaching Sign Language classes at Stark State for over ten years.  She has a Master’s Degree in Communicative Disorders-Audiology from the University of Akron and is an active member of the Ohio Speech and Hearing Association, the Ohio Speech Pathology Supervisory and Audiology network and the Canton Area Self-Help for Hard-of-Hearing People.

Melanie Butera, DVM
Dr. Butera received her Doctor of Veterinary degree from Ohio State in 1985 and has practiced veterinary medicine in Stark County ever since.  She was the owner of StarVet Inc: Stark County Veterinary Emergency Clinic for 14 years.  She has also developed several pieces of computer software used in the industry.

Julie Callisto, MA, LPCC
Julie has been a therapist for ten years, the first six in community agencies and now four in private practice.  She is experienced with employee assistance programs and gives drug-free workplace presentations.  Julie also serves on the Stark State advisory board for social worker and counselor continuing education.

Ernie Campbell,  MCSA, MCSE, MCP+I, MCT, CCNA, A+
Ernie holds many technical certifications and serves as a full-time staff instructor for DeCarlo, Paternite and Associates in Cleveland.  He has provided training for a number of local companies, including The Hoover Company, The Timken Company, Timken Mercy Medical Center, and Babcock & Wilcox.

Lynn Clark, PE
Mr. Clark began his 30-year career with the EPA, where he held positions of increasing responsibility.  He has also worked for the B.F. Good rich Chemical Group and Leaseway Transportation.  He now owns his own company.  Lynn has instructed many businesses on the use of Lean and Six Sigma tools in the course of his career.  He earned his bachelor’s in civil engineering degree from The Ohio State University and is registered professional engineer in Ohio, New Jersey, Texas and Maryland   He also is a Master Black Belt.

Jason Conrad
After working for 12 years in various sales and marketing functions for a construction and chemical company, Jason decided to return to school to obtain his teaching license and is currently a computer instructor for Lake Local Schools.

Dave Creighton
Dave has worked for 25 years as a machinist and machine operator, including CNC programming and operations, Heidenhain controls, and Fanuc controls.

Terry Crock
Terry received his Associate’s degree in mechanical engineering from Stark State and is currently an engineer with HydroChem Industrial Services in Canal Fulton, where his primary responsibility is to invent and/or design machinery used in industrial cleaning and ultrahigh pressure water jet cutting operations.  He has extensive experience using AutoCad to develop drawings and prints for this equipment.  He has also worked as an engineering technician for The Genie Company, Washtronics, Inc. and the Timken Company.

Ruth Crowl, PE
Ruth is a chemical engineer with over 20 years experience in plant design, operation and control systems.  She has served as an engineer and consultant for the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District and Putnam Community Water in Marietta.

Linda M. Davis, PhD, PC, LSW
Linda Davis has a PhD in counselor education and supervision from the University of Akron. She has worked for Summit County Children Services for the past 23 years, serving as an intake worker, a night intake supervisor, a crisis intake hotline supervisor, an educational resources supervisor, and currently, a visitation supervisor. Dr. Davis, having successfully completed a two-year Ohio Child Welfare Training the Trainer certificate program, works as an independent trainer and consultant. Her areas of expertise include visitation, attachment theory, child development, research, mental health, counseling, supervision, foster care and assessment. She also teaches part time at the University of Akron.

Bill DeCoste
Originally from Farmington, Michigan, Bill recently retired from Detroit Diesel, where he was a maintenance supervisor, chief electrician, and facilities general supervisor. His outstanding technical knowledge and ability to teach it to those on the “shop floor” has made Bill one of Stark State’s most respected instructors.

Robert K. Devies, PhD
Dr. Devies has been in independent practice since 1976.  Much of his practice is involved in treating individuals in medical and forensic settings, as well as teaching in both university and medical school settings.  He is a frequent speaker and has been accepted as an expert witness in both in-state and out-of-state cases.

Sherry Doherty, M.Ed., LSW
Ms. Doherty currently serves as Director of Staff Training and Special Needs Training Collaborative Director for Pathway Caring for Children in Canton.  She has over ten years experience in working with a variety of special populations, including at risk children, pre-schoolers with severe behavior problems, foster parents, and relationship-troubled individuals.

Karen Drummond
Karen has worked in the medical arena for over 15 years as a certified coder, phlebotomist and office manager.  She has worked for Team Health in Akron, Emergency Medical Physicians and Lab Corp in Canton and Hometown Health Network in Massillon.  She is a member of the American Academy of Professional Coders.

Tim Eckberg
Deputy Tim Eckberg has been with the Summit County Sheriff’s Office for more than 23 years.  He is a member of the Community Crisis Intervention Team and has received numerous commendations.  Tim has worked with the Summit County Jail, Detective Bureau, Court Security, and is currently assigned to Akron Metropolitan Housing Authority.

Carol Eschliman
A floral design instructor at Stark State for 10 years, Carol has worked in the floral industry for 20 years as a partner, manager and floral designer.  Her students continue to be thrilled with the new arrangements that they take home each week.

Jonathan Epstein, PhD
Dr Jonathon Epstein is an educator and therapist working with troubled and troubling youth with the Positive Education Program in Cleveland, Ohio.  He has served on the faculty of a number of leading universities including Wake Forest University, Kent State University, and the College of Wooster.  Dr. Epstein has authored over two dozen articles on youth culture for professional journals and has published two books, both dealing with adolescent subcultures and popular culture.
 
Susan Fee, LPC
Susan Fee is a licensed professional counselor and national speaker specializing in girls’ health and wellness.  She is the founder of Circle of F.R.I.E.N.D.S., a social skills development program for girls and has taught the curriculum to teachers, parents, scout leaders and summer camp staff.  Ms. Fee is the author of Building Resiliency, Positive First Impressions, Dealing with Difficult People and Secrets for Successful Presentations.  She is a former college counselor and published the college survival guide, My Roommate is Driving Me Crazy!  She appears regularly as a guest expert for Cleveland TV and radio stations.  Her advice has appeared in the Wall Street Journal, Cleveland Plain Dealer, Family Circle, Dear Abby and Good Housekeeping among several other national publications.

Judi Fischer, MA, LPCC
Judi has become a favorite presenter at Stark State. She is a counselor, educator, consultant, adjunct college instructor and owns and manages Lakeshore Educational and Counseling Services. She has presented numerous programs on a wide range of topics for professionals, community organizations, businesses, schools and churches. Judi is a member of the American Counseling Association, the Ohio Counseling Association and the American Association for Christian Counselors.

Gary Fix
A technical and computer whiz, Gary spent 20 years on the west coast serving as a database administrator, programmer, and support person for such companies as Georgia-Pacific, Aerojet, Slakey Brothers and Unigard Insurance.  He is very familiar with most database software programs and has expertise in client/server applications, strategic data modeling, LAN/WAN design and technical support and hardware evaluation and selection.

Jim Foley, MSW, LISW
Jim has been providing psychotherapy and mental health assessment for over 20 years, in Boston, Syracuse, and now for nearly fifteen years in Ohio. He has worked with children and families who are challenged by ADHD, school/learning problems, anxiety, depression, autism spectrum disorders, and relationship/social problems. He has served clients in agencies, homes, and in schools at every level from pre-K to college.  Jim is now a psychotherapist in private practice with Summit Therapy in Wooster, OH.

Pat Fuller
After spending 6 years as a junior high teacher, Pat was office administrator for Perry Eye Clinic for 26 years.  She received her bachelor’s degree from Wayne State University and her Master of Arts degree from Eastern Michigan University.  For the past 7 years Pat has taught computer classes at Stark State and in the Plain Local Community Education program.

Patricia Gandee, CDA, EFDA
Patty has been a dental assistant for 20 years.  She has extensive chairside experience in such areas as surgical assisting, materials sterilization, infection control, radiography, construction of crown and bridge temporaries, and oral hygiene instruction.  She received her EFDA certification from Case Western Reserve University.

Robert Gaskeen, LSW, CCDC-III
Mr. Gaskeen has over twenty years experience working with troubled populations, such as perpetrators and victims of violent crime.  He is the founder of CDT’s Training Initiatives and the coordinator for an ambulatory detox program.  He has written several works, including “Lessons in Forgiveness” and “A Pocket Guide for Group Leaders.”  He has also developed an online continuing education course on forgiveness.

Dwan Gordon-St. John
Dwan holds an MBA degree from Ashland University and is currently Director of Client and Staff relations at Alternative Residential Treatment in Akron.  A graduate of Leadership Stark County, she has served as program manager and trainer at Edwin Shaw Hospital and held a number of different positions with the Canton Urban League.

Ronald Graham, PhD
Ron has a doctoral degree in Engineering from Cleveland State University.  He has developed several web sites for companies  and has served as a social media advisor.  He worked for NASDA Glenn Research Center in Cleveland  in analysis and design of control systems for rockets, spacecraft, space platforms and solar arrays.  He developed and maintained the Engineer’s Companion web site, which for years was one of the most respected engineering reference web sites in the world.

Jennifer M. Grunder, CDA
Jennifer is a certified dental assistant and has worked in a variety of office settings since 1992.  She has extensive experience in all areas of dental assistant responsibility, including instrument sterilization, mixing composites and cements, radiography, taking impressions and many other chairside and administrative skills.

Fred Guarino
With 30 years service as a stationary engineer and assistant training officer, Fred recently retired from Ashland Oil, Inc.  He has taught at Stark State and the University of Akron for many years and is respected throughout the state as a knowledgeable and successful boiler instructor.

Casey Guthrie, PE, MSME
Currently an instructor of mechanical/design engineering technology at Stark State, Casey has experience in the areas of consumer products and the aerospace and defense industries.  He has worked as an engineer at the Hoover Company, NASA Lewis Research Center and Battelle Memorial Institute.  Casey has an MBA from Baldwin-Wallace College and an MS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Akron.

Jim Hardin
Jim has held various positions in maintenance, training and operations at the Timken Company since 1978.  He has been an instructor in the Timken Apprenticeship Program since 1982, teaching mechanical maintenance, math and hydraulics.  Jim has taught in Stark State’s continuing education program for 20 years.

Mike Harrington
One of our most popular presenters, Mike makes a return trip to Stark State from Chestertown, Maryland.  He holds certifications in water, wastewater and industrial wastewater treatment, is a Certified Environmental Instructor (CET) and has operational as well as manufacturing work experience.  He has given over 500 workshops across the U.S. and currently develops and presents these programs on behalf of manufacturers, distributors, and state-regulatory and training agencies.

William L. Hegarty, JD
A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, Bill became the Investigative Supervisor of the Ohio Counselor, Social Worker and Marriage and Family Therapist Board in August 1996, and is responsible for a staff of two investigators. He manages the numerous complaints the Board receives, assigns investigations to individual staff, carries his own caseload, routinely makes presentations to national associations, educational institutions and private agencies with regard to ethics in the fields of counseling and social work, and, working with the Assistant Attorney General, prepares cases for administrative hearings. He also is responsible for all public records requests and answers questions with regards to ethical concerns. He was promoted to Deputy Director in December 2003.

Kathy Krisher, CPA
Kathy is a management consultant with over 17 years of management and accounting experience.  She is president of Strategic Focus, a locally based company dedicated to helping businesses analyze cost and streamline processes.  Kathy is a member of the Ohio Society of CPAs, the Institute of Management Accountants, Canton Chamber of Commerce, and Toastmasters International.

Ray Hobson
Ray has served as a plant engineer at Greenville Metals, Inc. in Transfer, PA, and National Metal Abrasive in Wadsworth.  He developed and managed a number of equipment and preventative maintenance projects.  Ray has an MBA from Franciscan University.

Kimberly Ann Holle, MS, LSW, LCDC-III,CADC
Ms. Holle has worked in agencies, hospitals, treatment centers and churches with multicultural clients and families in recovery from addiction, chronic and/or life-threatening illness, family crisis, and bereavement.  She has extensive professional and religious training in incorporating spirituality and its various manifestations into the recovery and educational process.  She has published several articles on issues related to spirituality and therapy in peer-reviewed anthropology and family therapy journals.  She was most recently a program specialist in the Mathematical Biosciences Institute of The Ohio State University.

Toby Hoy, MBA, MTAX, CRMS. DREI, CPLP, CMLO, GRML, RECS, ARM, CLP, CMA, CIRO
Toby is a veteran of the real estate industry and is the Broker and Operations Manager for Whipple Financial Services, an affiliate of Whipple Auction & Realty and Whipple Associates.  Prior to entering the mortgage industry, Toby worked in the field of residential real estate management as the Managing Partner of Carlton Property Management. He has also worked as a contract closing/escrow agent for several title companies throughout Ohio.

Jane Hoyt-Oliver, PhD, ACSW, LISW
Dr. Hoyt-Oliver is chair of the department of social work at Malone College in Canton.  She holds an MSW from Syracuse University, where she also earned a certificate in gerontology in 1977.  She recently received her doctoral degree from Case Western Reserve University.  Prior to working at Malone Jane worked for organizations that cared for elderly persons in both North Carolina and Ohio.

Del Jones, PS
Del has been a professional surveyor for 25 years, vice-president of Technical Land Consultants for 24 years, and a member of the Beaver Township Zoning Board for 3 years.  Del has also been a surveying instructor at Stark State for the past 9 years.

Matt Jordan, A+, Net+
Matt is currently the treasurer and CFO of Conotton Valley Schools.  He worked for a number of years in Florida as MIS supervisor and Novell administrator for the Manatee County health department and computer programmer analyst for the Department of Corrections.  He received a bachelor’s degree in  computer information systems from Robert Morris College and a bachelors degree in accounting from the University of South Florida.

Marshall Karp, MA, NCC, LPC
Marshall is a career counselor who has been in private practice for twenty-one years.  He has counseled and trained thousands of area job hunters to find new careers and change jobs.  He is a contributing writer to the best seller, What Color is Your Parachute, and is the author of Finding the Career That Fits You.

Nancy Jones Keogh, PhD
Dr. Keogh is clinical director of the Community Health Center and is a psychologist in private practice.  She is a member of the medical staff at Akron General Medical Center and is adjunct clinical faculty at the University of Akron.  She has provided consultation for numerous boards, agencies and institutions in Northeast Ohio and has conducted workshops and seminars for the University of Akron, Cuyahoga Community College and Ohio State University.

Margot Kessler, PhD
Margot Kessler has been a psychologist in private practice for seven years. The practice specializes in adult, geriatric and relationship therapy with a focus on personal growth. Dr. Kessler graduated from Kent State University, where she taught as a graduate assistant for two years. She has presented seminars at state and national conferences.

Darla Klein
Darla has nearly 25 years of business experience, primarily in manufacturing environments.  She is a strong leader and presenter, whose expertise includes organizational culture change, leadership development, team building, and behavior-based safety.  She managed health and safety programs for ICI Paints North America in Cleveland and Avery Dennison Corporation in Concord.  Ms. Klein provided leadership consultation to businesses through the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation and Performance Management Consultants in Columbus.

John Labriola
John currently serves as chief building official for Summit County.  Prior to that, John served as chief building inspector for the city of Canton, chief electrical inspector for the Stark County Building Department and building and electrical inspector for the city of North Canton.  He is a state certified electrical safety inspector and a class III building inspector.  John has conducted numerous training programs for Stark State and the OCILB.

John Lauletta
John has over 25 years of successful experience in electric utility sales, service management and product marketing.  He worked for such companies as Gould Instruments, Scientific Columbus, and AEP before beginning his own marketing and sales company in 1998.  John developed the marketing, engineering specifications, and applications for the Fiber Optic Port on the Second Wind Phaser product line.

Robert E. Langoff
Bob has extensive experience in the fields of engineering and environmental management.  He has served as mining engineer and environmental coordinator for ESSROC Cement Corporation and project and plant engineer for US Cement.  He has developed several training programs in the safety area and has managed a number of significant environmental programs.  Bob received his MBA in international business from Kent State University.

Joseph LaRose, PE
Joe has a master’s degree in chemical engineering from Iowa State University and has served in a variety of engineering capacities at Avery Dennison, White Rubber and Goodyear.  He has taught at Muskegon College and Penn State.

Milton J. Ledford, MA, LSW, LPCC
Currently in private practice, Milton has worked in health care, social services, and non-profit charitable organizations for many years.  He has served in administrative and executive posts for community agencies and as a mental health consultant for a church denomination. Milton is credentialed by the State of Ohio as a Licensed Social Worker and as a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor with a Supervising Counselor endorsement. He is also a member of the adjunct faculty of Indiana Wesleyan University at their Cleveland branch campus and has also served as a field faculty member for the social work department of Ursuline College.  He currently serves as director of the social work department at St. Augustine Health Campus in Cleveland.

Jim Linkie
Currently an account executive in Stark State’s Department of Corporate Services, Jim has extensive experience in quality assurance and management.  He designed, implemented and maintained an ISO 9002 quality system for nine affiliated operations in four states.  His experience includes serving as manager of associate training and development, quality assurance manager, and human resources coordinator at ASW Services.  Jim is a member of the American Society for Quality and is certified as a QMS Internal Auditor and an ISO/TS16949 Supplier Auditor.

Eric Loew
Eric has been teaching drafting, CAD, tool design, and hydraulics at Stark State College for eighteen years, mainly within Mechanical Engineering Technology. He has bachelor and master’s degrees from the University of Akron and Sam Houston State University (Huntsville, Texas).

Lori Long, PCC-S, LICDC, BCPC
Lori has over 15 years experience working as a professional clinical counselor. She has worked at Rich Health and Wellness, Child Guidance and Family Solutions, Pathway Caring for Children, and the Community Drug Board.  She has developed and implemented a variety of mental health programs.  Lori is also a certified chemical dependency counselor and was the 2005 recipient of the Character Counts award from the City of Akron.

Helen Mandalinich
Helen has had a variety of positions in the computer field.  She was a computer operator for Austin Printing Company, information center coordinator for Prudential Insurance and personal computer coordinator at Aultman Hospital.  Helen has a degree in technical education from the University of Akron and has taught both credit and noncredit computer courses at Wayne College and Stark State for ten years.

Danny Maple
Danny is President and Owner of TechKnowLogix LLC, a technical training organization to help maintenance personnel more effectively troubleshoot using the latest in automation equipment.  Prior to founding his own company, Danny was the Director of Corporate Services at Stark State College.  He has 30 years of industrial maintenance experience with PLC and CNC and has been teaching adults for more than 15 years.

Barbara J. McHenry, Ph.D., LISW
Dr. McHenry has been working in the field of social work for the past twenty years.  For eleven of those years she has been in private practice in the Canton area serving populations with a wide variety of personal, family and addiction problems.  Barbara has worked with companies teaching Critical Incident Stress Debriefing with employees upon major downsizing and layoffs.  Working with the FAA has also been a prominent focus of this therapist.

John McNamara, A+, Net+, CCNA, MCP, MCSA, MCSE, Security+
Armed with certifications from Microsoft, Cisco and CompTIA, John is the telecommunications administrator for Visiting Nurse Service and Affiliates, where he supervises help desk functions and all phases of phone installation and contracts.  John is a veteran of the Army and the National Guard.

Brian Moore, LISW
Brian is an associate professor in the Human and Social Services program at Stark State and has been an outpatient counseling therapist for the past 10 years with Child Guidance/Family Solutions. He also provides supervision for LISW Social Workers; he is a senior lecturer at the University of Akron School of Social Work and does consulting for Summit Psychological. Brian has been a member of the National Association of Social Workers for the past 19 years. His previous work experience includes 12 years with Oriana House community corrections, working with clients who have HIV/AIDS, autism and at the Summit County Jail mental health department. Brian has conducted numerous professional workshops on ethics, supervision and communications.

Michael Morris, MCSE, MCSA, Net+
Michael is the VP of Information Technology for Mancan, a regional staffing company based out of Massillon, Ohio. He has been employed by Mancan since 2000 and is responsible for all technology related business functions and development.

Jerry Mosley
One of northeast Ohio’s most popular and respected real estate instructors, Jerry has been a real estate agent since 1990.  He worked with Century 21 and Smythe Cramer before beginning his own company in Tallmadge, Ohio.  Besides Stark State, Jerry has also taught pre-license courses at Southern Ohio College and Hondros College.

John E. Mumper, MSSW, LISW, JD
John has unique credentials as both a licensed social worker and an attorney.  He is a Professor of Community Services at the University of Akron and is also in private practice as an attorney and ethics consultant.  John  has presented numerous professional development ethics-related seminars throughout Ohio.

Sam Nodo
The owner of Best Way Heating and Cooling in Massillon, Sam has been teaching  refrigeration classes at Stark State for a number of years.  A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, he has been in the HVAC business 28 years.

Bette Oplinger, MSN, RN
Bette Oplinger has a master’s degree in nursing from The University of Akron and is an associate professor of nursing at Stark State College.  She has been involved in nursing education for more than 20 years and has been involved in the development and presentation of numerous continuing education programs.

Thomas O'Reilly, MS, PCC-S
Thomas holds a BS in business administration from The Ohio State University and a MS in marriage and family therapy from The University of Akron. He is licensed by the State of Ohio as a professional clinical counselor with supervisory designation. His 14 years of counseling practice has included work with children, adolescents, adults, couples and families, geriatrics, those experiencing loss, a wide array of emotional and personal issues and spiritual concerns. Thomas has worked as a substance abuse therapist for more than five years, both in residential and outpatient settings, and currently works part-time as a clinical screener at Portage Path Behavioral Healthcare Psychiatric Emergency Services (PES), working with severely mentally disturbed patients.

Michael Painter
Mike graduated from Stark State with an associate degree in civil engineering.  He has been a certified technician, sales representative and support representative for Precision Labor and Instrument for the past 11 years, specializing in Topcon Total Stations and GPS.  Prior to that, Mike worked at Anderson Instrument and Supply Company in Canton for 10 years.  He is an expert on GPS, robotic surveying instruments and all laser products.

Tim Parks
Tim was a water and wastewater operator and maintenance supervisor for the City of Ashland’s water plants for 26 years.  Before retiring, he served as superintendent of water, wastewater, sewer and industrial pretreatment and pool for the City of Galion for 5 years.  While at Galion, he wrote an MS4 program that was approved by the EPA and was awarded funding for two stimulus projects.

Barbara Patterson, RN, BA, JD
Ms. Patterson is a nurse consultant and attorney who has taught nursing students at the University of Akron and Stark State College.  She has served as Court Magistrate and Director of Human Services for the Summit County Court of Common Pleas Probate Division, as well as EMS Educational Consultant and Manager of Emergency Services at Children’s Hospital Medical Center of Akron.  She has a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Akron.

Kathleen M. Petron
Kathy is the owner of Sustainable Edge LLC and is a LEED Accredited Professional with a specialty accreditation in BD+C (2008). For over 24 years she has served in the capacity of general contractor or operations manager for various contractors and construction products manufacturers. A diverse background in the construction industry encompassing operations, finance, strategic planning and business development support the creation of ROI‐based sustainability plans. 

John Pflaum
John is the group leader for environment and safety at Aircraft Braking Systems Corporation.  He is responsible for industrial hygiene, corporate environmental compliance, and salvage operations.  He is member of the American Academy of Industrial Hygiene and has taught environmental and safety classes at the University of Akron and Stark State.

Alva (Butch) Powell
Butch worked for 24 years at Republic Technologies International in the electrical and electronics maintenance areas.  Prior to that he was a technician and instructor in the U.S. Army.  Butch has significant experience on a variety of PLC-operated machines.

Rebecca Priest
Rebecca has been Director of Development at Stark State College since 1983, focusing on public grant programs and foundation giving.  Her expertise in developing grant proposals has resulted in bringing more than $15 million to the campus.

Brock Reiman, Ph.D.
Dr. Reiman is the Director of Counseling Services and teaches graduate counseling classes at Malone College.  He sees clients in private practice with Dr. Richard George where he specializes in treating adolescents, couples, and addictions.  He has worked in the helping profession since 1985 working with various clientele.

Cynthia Rudick, Ph.D.
Cynthia D. Rudick has a PhD in counselor education with a cognate in marital and family therapy. She has been licensed to practice clinical counseling since 1987 and also has endorsement to supervise counselors. She has extensive experience working with individuals, couples, families and groups across the lifespan. Her emphasis is on wellness and self-care. She serves as an adjunct professor in graduate counseling programs and continuing education departments. She has been executive director of mental health and welfare reform agencies. In addition, she is a professional mediator and arbitrator. She also has completed years of training in person-centered groups.

Jacqueline Rutan, CDA, EFDA
Jacci has worked for 12 years as a certified dental assistant in several dental offices.  She has taught dental assisting at Belmont-Harrison Career Center in St. Clairsville and Buckeye Career Center in New Philadelphia.  Jacci is a member of the National Association of Dental Assistant, the Ohio Dental Expanded Functions Association, and the Ohio State Teachers Association.

Willie Scalero
Willie is the program coordinator for Environmental, Health and Safety Technology at Stark State.  He worked for 28 years in the environmental management field with the Gulf Coast Waste Disposal Authority in Texas, where he served as operations and compliance coordinator and was responsible for preparing, implementing and maintaining a pretreatment program that serviced over 70 industrial and municipal facilities.  Willie is a certified OSHA trainer.

Stephanie Selway, LPC/CR,RC
Currently employed at Max Berkins and Associates and at Community Mental Healthcare, Stephanie works as a substance abuse and mental health counselor.  She is experienced in diagnosing and treating both adolescents and adults, in providing services for Employee Assistance Programs and is trained in general mediation by the Ohio Bar Association.  She earned her MA degree from Walsh University and is a member of Psi Chi International and Sigma Chi Iota.

Glenn Shepard
Glenn presents seminars helpful to small businesses in over 90 colleges and universities throughout the country.  He has developed practical and effective solutions that help companies and managers deal with difficult employees and collect past due accounts.  Previous attendees at Glenn’s seminars include representatives from BellSouth Mobility, Sun Trust, Coca-Cola and even the IRS.

Cheryl Shepherd
Cheryl has 17 years of extensive experience in sales, sales management, sales leadership, and training in the hospitality industry.  She was sales manager for Continental Companies and Pickett Suite Hotels and served as vice-president of sales training and special projects for Wyndham International.  Since 2001, Cheryl has managed her own company, providing customized training and consulting services throughout the country.

Shari Shiepis, LISW
Shari Shiepis is a licensed independent social worker with a supervisory designation. She obtained her master’s degree from Case Western Reserve University’s Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences. She’s a member of the National Association of Social Workers. Shari has more than 21 years experience in the social wok field. She has worked for Child Protective Services, the Crisis Intervention Center, and as a social worker for Aultman Hospital. Her clinical work has been working with children, adolescents, adults, couples and families, and offenders. Shari is an advocate for victims and works with victim issues as well. She has presented numerous workshops on a wide range of topics in the community and for professionals. She is the Department Chair and an associate professor in the Human Services Department at Stark State College where she teaches social work classes. She is also employed by Melymbrosia Associates, Inc. as a therapist working with offenders.

Stacy Simera, MSSA, LISW-S, SAP
Stacy Simera is an independent social worker, certified substance abuse professional, and is certified in mediation. She obtained her master’s degree from Case Western Reserve University’s Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences. Stacy provides outpatient psychotherapy at Gary Robinson and Associates in Kent and facilitates a depression management group at the Oak Clinic for Multiple Sclerosis in Canton. Stacy is an adjunct instructor at Stark State College, teaching social work practice courses. Stacy also is a trainer for the Ohio Child Welfare Training Program, traveling across Ohio to conduct trainings for caseworkers and foster parents on the recognition and treatment of mental disorders.

David Simkanin, MBA, RHIA
David has been the Director of Medical Records and Transcription at Aultman Health Foundation in Canton since 1999.  He has developed coding guidelines and education programs for Aultman staff as well as a variety of reporting packages.  Prior to coming to Aultman, David was a health information analyst at Mount Sinai Medical center in Cleveland.

Bruce Smith, LISW, ACSW, LPCC
Bruce is a private practitioner in Wooster with over twenty years experience.  He holds three NASW certifications, has presented hundreds of professional continuing education workshops throughout Ohio, and has extensive experience in corrections, public health and mental health.  Bruce has supervised numerous interns from area colleges and universities and is known for his colorful flipcharts and group responsiveness.

Janice Sprankle, CPT
Janice is a Certified Pharmacy Technician.  She has worked in the Mercy Medical Center Pharmacy and has taught pharmacy technician classes at Portage Lakes Joint Vocational School, Canton City Schools, and Stark State.  In 2004 Janice received the Educator of the Year award through the National Pharmacy Technician Association.

Judy Stauder, RN, MSN
Judy  worked for 30 years at Aultman Hospital and the Aultman Hospital School of Nursing.  She received her Master’s degree in Nursing from  the University of Akron and has taught medical terminology in Stark State’s continuing education program for 10 years.  Recently, Judy also joined the Health technologies faculty at Stark State.

Frank Tinus, MSME.
Frank was the Dean of Corporate and Community Services at Stark State College before retiring in 2010. Before joining Stark State in 1993, he spent over twenty years working for both Fortune 100 companies and smaller firms. In twelve years with Procter & Gamble, he held positions in Engineering, Manufacturing, and Product Development. While with the Pizza Hut Division of PepsiCo for six years, he served as the company's Director of Research Engineering. Later his responsibilities with a Pizza Hut franchisee included strategic planning and property acquisition.

Traci L. Tsai, LPCC and Marcie S. Girdlestone, PCC
Traci and Marcie are licensed counselors specializing in child, adolescent and family therapy.  They both hold master’s degrees in counseling and human development from Walsh University.  They developed T.R.U.S.T. Adventure Groups serving at risk children and teens.  In addition to their clinical work, they have also provided training to clinicians and parents regarding attachment disorder, group therapy, and adventure therapy techniques.  Both women currently work at Psychological and Educational Solutions in Canton.

George Urban
Attorney George Urban received his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Akron Law School.  His specialized areas of practice include small business formation, contractors, contract formation and negotiation, real estate, landlords and evictions.  He is a member of the Stark County Bar Association and serves on the Mentor Committee, Municipal Court Committee, and the Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee.

Steve Uzelac
Steve is a retired teacher, author, workshop leader, husband, grandfather and lover of life.  The author of Learning to Find Your Excellence, Steve has presented his workshops from Spain to California and everywhere in-between.  He believes that when people and organizations choose to put the important things first, they have made a pro-active choice that will enhance their success.

Karen Vadino, MSW, LPCC, OCPC
Karen is a nationally recognized speaker known for her unique and humorous approach to life.  She has been in the human services field for over 20 years and has been a trainer and educator for 15 years.  Karen has worked for two different Childrens Services Boards, in a children’s psychiatric hospital and in several chemical dependency agencies.  She has been a part-time instructor at Youngstown State, Penn State and Westminster College.

Michael Vahila, LMT
Michael has been working in the field of healing arts since 1991.  He is a National Board certified Acupuncturist, Licensed massage Therapist and Traditional Reiki Master.  He has a full time therapy practice in Canton and has been teaching massage therapy at Stark State since 1999.

Karen Weletyk, MA, CRT, LSW
Karen has been a supervisor in the probation department of the Summit County Court of Common Pleas for over 20 years and is responsible for developing and supervising an intensive program which diverts felony offenders from the prison system.  Karen received her certification in Reality Therapy in Los Angeles.  A licensed social worker, she has a BS in Social Work from the Ohio State University and an MA in Corrections from Kent State.

Cheryl Wellock, ACSW, LISW
Cheryl is a medical social worker employed by Cleveland Clinic Home Care. She has spent many years in rehabilitation programs, home health care, and hospice.  An affiliate of the Academy of Certified Social Workers, Cheryl spent 11 years in Caracas, Venezuela working on community development projects.  She is a graduate of the Mandel School of Social Sciences at Case Western Reserve and Mount Union College.

Kyle Weygandt MS,CDVCIII, CCCJS
Kyle’s company, “Just The F.A.C.T.S.” Forensic And Criminology Training Seminars,  provides educational programs to Law Enforcement, Social and Human Services personnel on a myriad of topics, teaching participants about the effects of domestic violence, proactive crisis management and violence in the workplace. Kyle has 17 years experience in rehabilitation, over 20 years of Martial Arts experience, and 12 years experience teaching  professionals effective ways to intercept verbal and physical aggression. Kyle is a commissioned  part-time police officer,  an Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy Special Topics instructor,  and is credentialed through the National Association of Forensic Counselors as a Certified Forensic Counselor / Educator. 

C. Scott Williams, MS
Scott is currently Coordinator of Environmental Safety and Health at Stark State College.  He had previously served as a water and wastewater treatment plant technician in North Carolina, as supervisor and enforcement coordinator for the Division of Drinking and Ground Water for the Ohio EPA in Twinsburg, and as documentation manger for SUNPRO in North Canton.  Scott has also been an adjunct professor of geological and environmental studies at Youngstown State University and Hiram College.

Bruce Wilt
Bruce retired from the Springfield Local School District in 1996 after spending 30 years as a teacher and principal. He currently serves as operations manager for Summit Vocational Training and ASW Services, Inc.  Bruce plans and conducts a variety of training programs in OSHA compliance, safety and customer service.
