Upon successful testing and completion of any IT certification you’ll receive credit for the comparable class(es) in our associate degree IT programs.

Computer Technology Certification Testing
Stark State College is an authorized Pearson VUE (Virtual University Enterprise) and PROMETRIC testing center. Certification testing is offered in

[ NEW! ] Windows 7, Enterprise Desktop Support Technician (70-685)
This class prepares candidates for Exam 70-685, with stackable paths to MCITP. Topics covered include cause and resolution for network, security and desktop applications; supporting client systems; and supporting mobile users.

Network+ Certification
Prepare for Network+ certification through hands-on and traditional instructor-led delivery. In addition to traditional foundations of network concepts, additional focus is paid to network security, virtual networking, and the sevenlayer OSI model as prescribed by the N10-005 exam. Some network-related experience is helpful, but not required.

Security+ Certification
This class prepares candidates for Security+ certification (SY0-301, JK0-018) through hands-on and instructor led-delivery. We’ll discuss and explore network devices, ports, risk mitigation and network vulnerability.

Prerequisite: one to two years of IT, preferably network-related experience or equivalent.

In this introductory Linux course, learn basic skills with the objective of increasing overall familiarity with the operating system. Learn directory organization, package and process management, task scheduling, networking, introductory command line interface and Web services. Some background with command line operating system interfaces is suggested.

Get the skills necessary to earn certification in CompTIA Linux+. We’ll cover topics that include Linux installation and package management, GNU and Unix commands, devices, Linux file systems and file system hierarchy standard, shells, scripting and data management, user interfaces and desktops, administrative tasks essential system services, networking fundamentals and security.

Prerequisite: Introduction to Linux or equivalent work experience.

A+ Certification
In this hands-on, lab-based course, you’ll learn the skills required to become A+ certified. Cover the fundamentals of computer technology; installation and configuration of PCs, laptops and related hardware; and basic networking. We’ll also install and configure PC operating systems, as well as configure common features (e.g., network connectivity and email) for mobile operating systems Android and Apple iOS.

[ NEW! ] VMware Bootcamp with VCP Certification
In this intensive, extended-hours course, you’ll focus on installing, configuring and managing VMware® vSphere® 5. You’ll explore the topics covered in VMware vSphere: Install, Configure, Manage in greater detail and expand on them by learning advanced tasks and gaining expert skills for configuring a highly available and scalable virtual infrastructure. You’ll also gain hands on experience installing, configuring, and managing VMware vSphere, which consists of VMware ESXi™ 5.0 and VMware vCenter™ Server 5.0, and you’ll learn about all the new features found in vSphere 5. Topics unique to this course include Fault Tolerance, vSphere Management Assistant (vMA), Storage vMotion, and Distributed Power Management (DPM). Approximately 40% of your class time will be devoted to 32 hands-on labs. Intended for experienced IT professionals with at least three years of supporting an IT infrastructure.
