Inserting and Navigating Headers and Footers in Word 2003

  1. From the menu bar, Click View, Header and Footer.

  1. Type text that you would like to have displayed in the Header.

  1. To switch between header and footer click the switch between Header and Footer button on the Header and Footer toolbar.

  1. Type text that you would like to have displayed in Footer.

  1. To navigate to the header or footer of the previous or following pages, use the Show Previous and Show Next buttons on the Header and Footer toolbar.

To make first page header different from the rest of document’s headers:
  1. If you would like to have a different header and footer for the first page of document:
  2. Click the Page Setup button from the Header and Footer toolbar.

  1. On the Layout tab check the box marked Different first page.

  1. Click OK
  2. Type text that you want displayed as the first page header.

  1. On the Header and Footer toolbar click the appropriate button:
    1. The switch between Header and Footer button to edit First Page footer
    2. The Show Next button to edit remaining Headers
    3. The Close button to close Header and Footer toolbar
