What is my
Student Profile?
Your Student Profile is part of your Academic Network account. Your profile
contains all of your desktop settings (wallpaper, desktop shortcuts, et cetera),
maps your U: drive (HOME folder), maps the Medusa Shared drive, and runs a
script to assign your PC the appropriate printer. We use roaming profiles which
means the settings will be saved and used where ever you log on in the
classroom.
Documents saved to your desktop
are part of your profile; this is not recommended. Your documents should be
saved to your U: drive (your HOME folder). You can create a short cut on your
desktop to your U: drive, and/or to other folders/documents on your U: drive for
quick access.
Your profile may become corrupt
and need to be deleted, therefore, you should save all your documents to your
HOME folder on the U: drive. We recommend that you make a backup of your work on
a removable media as well.
How do I
identify a corrupt profile?
If you log in and strange things are happening; you may have a corrupt profile.
Examples of a corrupt
profile:
• Your settings have changed (Start Menu,
wallpaper, et cetera),
• Your home page in Internet Explorer is msn.com,
• You can not print because you have no printers
setup*
(*To see if you have a printer; click Start ->
Printers and Faxes, there should be a printer named
with your current room number, e.g. B214A).
If you believe your have a
corrupt profile, you must log off, reboot the computer and go to
the Help Desk counter on the second floor of the Business building and explain
your situation. Your profile will be deleted and recreated when you logon again.
If you can not come to the Help Desk, you must logoff and you may contact us at
Ext. 4357 and explain your situation.
What does it
mean that I have exceeded my profile limit?
Your profile is limited to 25MB of storage space. If you get a message stating
you have exceeded this limit, you must reduce your profile size before logging
off. A smaller profile will allow you to log on and off faster, and reduce the
chances of a corrupt profile.
Directions to reduce your profile
size can be found here. |
