Configuring Student Email to Work With an
Email Client |

The following screenshots and
directions are for Outlook Express, specifically; however you can use the
following settings to configure your Stark State email to work with any email
client.
- To access your Stark State
Student email using an email client such as Outlook Express you must first
enable POP in your Stark State Gmail Account.
- Log in to your student email
account.
- Click the ‘Settings’
link.
- Click the ‘Forwarding
and POP’ link.
- Select either the button
labeled ‘Enable POP for all mail (even mail that has already been
downloaded) or the ‘Enable POP only for mail that arrives from now on’
- Click the ‘Save
Changes’ button.
- Open Outlook Express.
- Click the ‘Tools’
menu then click ‘Accounts…’ (Figure 1)
- Once you click
‘Accounts…’ the Internet Accounts window will be
displayed. Click ‘Add’ then click i (Figure 2)

- This will start the
Internet Connection Wizard. Enter the name that you want to be
displayed in the “From” field of an Outgoing message. Click ‘Next’. (Figure 3)

- Enter your entire Stark
State email address and click ‘Next.’ (Figure 4)

- Enter the following Email
server names to configure your email client (see Figure 5):
Incoming mail server: pop.gmail.com
Outgoing mail server: smtp.gmail.com
Click ‘Next.’

- Enter your account name
(your full Stark State Email address) and password. If you would not like to
be prompted for a password every time you send email, check the
‘Remember password’ check box. Click ‘Next.’ (Figure 6)

- Click ‘Finish.’ (Figure 7)

- After clicking ‘Finish’ you
will be returned to the Internet Accounts window. Highlight
the account labeled “pop.gmail.com” by clicking it. Then,
click ‘Properties’ (Figure 8)

- From the ‘Properties’
window, click the ‘Advanced’ tab and complete the following
steps. (Figure 9)
- Change the Outgoing
mail (SMTP) server port number to 465.
- Check the box labeled
‘This server requires a secure connection (SSL)’
- Change the Incoming
mail (POP) server port number to 995.
- Once again, check the box
labeled ‘This server requires a secure connection (SSL)’
- Check the box labeled
‘Leave a copy of messages on server’.
- Click ‘Apply’
and click ‘OK’.

You have just completed configuring your Stark State College email account to
work through your remote email client. You can now send and receive email from
your Stark State email account without having to log into your email account
through the Stark State College Web site. |
