Student HOME Folders
and Profiles on
Medusa |
 |
|
All students have a home folder and
a profile folder on the academic network (Starkstate.net domain) on the server
called Medusa. Students are to save their work to their home folders.
The profile folder contains all of
the user settings for your desktop. Profiles contain your wallpaper settings,
desktop shortcuts, favorite’s lists, and any other settings you change. We use
roaming profiles on the academic network which allows your settings to come up
on any computer in any lab.
Microsoft applications by default
save to the My Documents folder which is redirected to your Home folder.
Do not save to your desktop because files saved there are not redirected to your
home folder.
The roaming profiles have a
size limitation set on them and if you reach the limit, you will be prevented
from logging off until you have deleted some of the files from your folder.
The home folders only get deleted at the end of the school year. In order to
save to the home folder one must specify the location of the folder to save the
file in. All students have this drive mapped as “U” when logging on to the
Starkstate.net domain (see figure 1 below).

| Figure 1 |
The “U” drive is mapped to the
root of the student’s home folders on Medusa. Students must navigate to their
folder to save their work. An easy way to do this is to highlight any account
name and start typing in the account name you logged on to the computer with.
The cursor will “jump” to that area in the list (see figure 2 below). You
must type quickly in order for the cursor to jump directly to your folder. Once
you have found your folder, open it by double-clicking on the folder.

The student home folders do have
a size limitation. If a student reaches their limit they will need to save some
of their files to other media (jump drive, 3 1/2” or CD) or delete some of the
files.
Helpful Tip: Put a
shortcut on your desktop in order to open your home folder quickly. Highlight
your home folder (see Figure 2) and right-click. Select Send To >Desktop (create
shortcut) |
