How to Connect to Stark State’s Wireless Access Point

What is a Wireless Access Point?
Wireless Access Points or Hotspots are locations where you can connect your wireless enabled mobile devices (such as a laptop or a PDA) to the internet using standard Wireless LAN technology.

Campus Wireless Access Points are provided for students, faculty, staff, and visitors to our campus in the following areas:
  Cyber Café and Lobby Area 1st and 2nd floor in the C building
  Student Center/Cafeteria 1st and 2nd floor in the S building
  Quiet Study area 1st and 2nd floor in the H building
  Atrium in the B building across from the SILK auditorium
  Courtyard outside of the cafeteria
  Courtyard outside of the north & south doors of the Cyber Café

To Connect to the Stark State Wireless Network Using Windows XP
  1. Double click on the Wireless Network Connection Icon. Usually this icon is located in the Windows notification area on 802.11 b/g enabled laptops (figure 1).

  2. This will bring up the Choose a wireless network dialogue box (figure 2).
  3. Select STARKSTATE from the list of available networks and click Connect (figure 2).

  4. You may receive a message stating that you are attempting to connect to an unsecured network, at this dialog box click Connect Anyway to continue connecting (figure 3). Note: STARKSTATE wireless access is an unsecure network and does not require a password.

  5. Your wireless device will retrieve the network settings and connect to the network (figure 4).

  6. The STARKSTATE network will now show Connected

  7. The icon in the notification area will also change to show that you are connected to a wireless network (figure 6).

  8. Open a Web Browser and visit http://www.starkstate.edu/helpdesk or any other Web site to confirm that the network connection has been established and that everything has been configured correctly.
