Clearing Your Browser's Cache

The pages on this Web site are updated regularly, and you may be viewing old information if your browser's cache (pronounced "cash") is not cleared frequently.

In the cache, your browser saves a temporary copy of recently viewed pages and graphics allowing it to load more quickly if you revisit a page. However, if changes have been made to a page you are viewing, it is possible that you will not be seeing the most current information but rather an older version of a page or graphic your computer has stored in the cache.

To ensure that you are viewing the most current information, first click the “Refresh/Reload” button on your toolbar (often denoted by an icon of two arrows cycling over one another). This should clear out the old information for your current session and bring in fresh information from the Internet. It is recommended however, that you set your browser to automatically clear out the cache on a regular and frequent basis.

To manually clear your browser cache, follow the directions below:

Internet Explorer | Netscape | AOL

Internet Explorer:
To clear your cache:

1. On the Internet Explorer Tools menu, click Internet Options. The Internet Options box should open to the General tab.

2. On the General tab, in the Temporary Internet Files section, click the Delete Files button. This will delete all the files that are currently stored in your cache.

3. Click OK, and then click OK again.

Tip: You can adjust your Internet Explorer settings to automatically clear the cache whenever you close Internet Explorer. Go to the Tools menu, and click Internet Options. Click the Advanced tab. In the "Settings" box, scroll down to the section labeled "Security," and click to check the box next to the "Empty Temporary Internet Files folder when browser is closed" option.

Netscape:
To clear cache in Netscape, perform the following steps:
(The following steps were created using Netscape 6.2. The steps may look different depending on the version of Netscape you are using.)

1. From the Edit menu, click Preferences.

2. In the Preferences dialog box, from the Category menu, click to expand Advanced. Click to select Cache.

3. Under Cache, click Clear Memory Cache. Click Clear Disk Cache.

   In Netscape Communicator 4.7, you must confirm your decision to Clear Memory Cache and
      Clear Disk Cache.
  
In Netscape Communicator 4.7 for the Macintosh, click Clear Disk Cache Now.

4. From "Compare the page in the cache to the page on the network", click to select "Every time I view the page."

   "Every time I view the page" - Netscape will check for a new version of a page every time you visit
      it.
      Using this option, you are assured of the most current content, but it takes longer to browse
      previously viewed pages.
  
Automatically - Netscape will check for a new version of a page the first time you visit it, but any
      subsequent visits to the page in the same browsing session will be loaded from the cache.
  
Once per session - Netscape will check pages for changes only on your first visit in each
      browsing session. If, over time, Netscape determines that a page changes less frequently, it will
      check for updates less frequently.
  
Never - Netscape will not check for newer versions of stored pages. This option enables the
      fastest browsing session, but you could be viewing outdated content stored in the cache.

5. Click OK

NOTE: If after clearing your cache from within Netscape you are still unable to reach your site using the domain name, it is possible not all cached files were removed. See below for information on how to manually clear your cache in Netscape.

If you have cleared your cache from the Netscape browser window and you are still unable to reach your site using the domain name, you may need to clear your Netscape cache manually.

To manually clear your Netscape cache, perform the following steps:
(Before proceeding with the following steps, please close all open Netscape windows. The following steps were created using Netscape 6.2. The steps may differ depending on the version of Netscape you are using.)

1. From your desktop, right-click Start. Click Explore.

2. Navigate to C:\Program Files\Netscape\Users\User\Cache, where C: is the letter of your hard drive, and User is your specific Netscape user folder. (If no Netscape user profiles exist, the default location of this folder is C:\Program Files\Netscape\Users\default\Cache.)

3. From the Edit drop-down menu, click Select All.

4. Right-click in the Cache folder. Click Delete.

5. From the Confirm Multiple File Delete window, click Yes.
A message indicating your Cache files are Deleting will appear.

AOL
To pull a new or latest revision of the page, you right-click on the background of the page and select refresh.

Sometimes your cache gets "clogged" and refreshing may not work. An overloaded cache can also slow down your browser's performance, or result in error pages, system "freeze up", even the disappearing mouse trick!

You should regularly clear out your cache:

   Sign off
   On your toolbar above, go to My AOL–> Preferences–> WWW–> General, and DELETE the
      temporary internet files, and CLEAR the history folder.
   Restart your computer.
