eStarkState - Computer Requirements
To take a Web course, you need the right computer system. The following are the minimum computer requirements for taking a Web course. Some courses may have other or additional requirements. Please check the course description for the course you are interested in to determine if there are any special requirements.
Some online courses have additional hardware and software requirements. If specific software is required in your course, you will need to have this software available for use outside of class. Stark State College instructors cannot provide software to students. Please check with your instructor to determine if your class has any specific hardware or software requirements.
The preferred browser for ANGEL is Firefox.
Typically 2 GB minimum or whatever your operating system and browser require. NOTE: Different software packages have different requirements. Refer to the suppliers of this software for their requirements.
500 GB minimum hard drive. NOTE: Refer to software suppliers website to verify their hardware requirements.
Windows 7, 8, 8.1, 10, Macintosh OS X, 10.6, 10.7, 10.8 or 10.9. NOTE: Some courses may require a specific operating system.
The College does not provide Internet service for students. If you intend to access the Web course from your home computer you will need your own account with Internet service. You must have Internet access prior to the start of class.
The College uses ANGEL, a course management system, as the platform for our Web-based and Web-enhanced courses. The recommended browser for ANGEL is Firefox. There are specific version requirements for the browsers which ANGEL supports. In addition, there are specific settings which you may be required to select in your browser. The College provides general email accounts to students. The College's Web learning platform, ANGEL, provides each student registered in a Web course with internal email. The ANGEL email tool only allows users to send email to other students or the instructor in the Web course.
Additional applications such as a file compression utility or browser plug-ins which play sound or video may be required in your course. Click here and view the browser plug-ins section for more information.
Depending on the course you are taking, you may also need a sound card with speakers for playing audio files and a higher resolution monitor. Individual courses may require configurations over and above those specified here.
