(North Canton, OH – Sept. 19, 2012) – Stark State College ranks among the top 15 percent of military friendly schools in the nation according to GI Jobs magazine. The magazine recognizes the college’s commitment to providing a supportive academic environment and college experience for military services members, veterans and their spouses.
As of fall semester, Stark State serves 266 military personnel, 53 women and 213 men.
“Stark State embraces our military men and women and provides an environment designed to assist them in completing their academic programs on the road to success,” said Cheryl Rice, vice president for student services and enrollment management. “We serve a diverse population of adult learners and offer many modalities to fit their lifestyles.” Many of the college’s academic programs align with jobs held in the military and draw upon the learning experiences of veterans.
To create the Military Friendly Schools list, G.I. Jobs polled colleges, universities and trade schools across the nation. The top schoolswere identified using several measures, including accreditation, programs and policies, financial commitment, and proven success in recruiting military and veteran students.
