Stark State College offers new majors, degrees

(North Canton, OH – March 31, 2014) - Stark State College has been approved by the Ohio Board of Regents to offer several new degrees and majors.

  • In the business management program, a new major in sports management will give students opportunities in sports administration, marketing and promotion, ethics, facility and event management and other areas. The new degree is transferable to a bachelor’s degree program through articulation agreements with Kent State University, Ashland University, Bowling Green State University and others.
  • Another new major in business management, gaming management, will address Ohio’s growing need for gaming service workers. These students will be ready to meet the needs of Ohio’s new casinos that require an around-the-clock skilled workforce in gaming surveillance, card-game supervision, slot machine management, guest services, facility and event management, public relations and other areas.
  • The College’s new petroleum technology program, instrumentation and electronics major will support Ohio’s growing oil and gas industry, providing trained technicians who can troubleshoot and maintain electronics, instruments and automation; measure equipment; calibrate pressure gauges and more.
  • A new associate of arts degree in applied sociology is a pathway for students to earn their initial sociology credits and then seamlessly transfer their degree to a four-year university sociology program.

Stark State College offers more than 230 associate degrees, options, one-year and career enhancement certificates in education, liberal arts and math; sciences; business and entrepreneurial studies; health and human services; and engineering and information technologies.
