Welcome to Stark State College …
where your path to career success begins

Dr. Para Jones

Dear Students,

Whether you’re new or returning – welcome! I am delighted that you have selected Stark State as your College. I assure you that you have made the right decision for your education and your future.

Pardon me if I brag for a moment, but you are savvy, value-conscious college students. Many of you tell me that you selected Stark State College for our programs, quality education, affordable tuition, small class sizes and outstanding faculty.

Students like you are one of the many “points of pride” here at Stark State:

  • Our students come from several counties in the region, including Stark (63%), Summit (29%), Portage, Wayne, Tuscarawas and more.

  • Our students’ average age is 29, but we serve individuals of all ages and from all backgrounds. This semester, for example, we have more than 3,200 high school students enrolled in College Credit Plus programs.

  • 92% of our 2014 graduates are employed and/or continuing their education; more than half are continuing their education, compared to just 25% a year earlier.

As you begin this fall semester, I want to assure you that your success is our No. 1 goal. Please take charge of your education and your future by seeking assistance when you need it – in the classroom, through tutoring, by visiting with your academic advisor and by letting all of us know how we can assist you in being successful.

I encourage you to set goals for the semester. Engage fully in the excellent classes we offer. Get to know your professors and fellow students. Join one of our many student organizations, including those that will connect you with your major field and career goals. Aspire to become a member of Phi Theta Kappa, an international honorary for two-year college students with an award-winning chapter right here at Stark State.

I look forward to meeting you in classes, study areas and hallways on campus, and I wish you a successful, enriching, enjoyable semester.

All my best,

Para M. Jones, PhD
