Hallmarks
The Hallmark awards program recognizes excellence in
programs and projects that promote the Phi Theta Kappa Hallmarks of
Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Fellowship. In this program, chapters
compete against one another. Participation encourages excellence, reflects
fairness, recognizes quality, and leads to enhanced student, advisor, and
chapter development.
- Scholarship - This Hallmark is
centered on the Honors Study Topic, a bi-annual topic based on global
issues that chapters study and explore through the academic year. This
topic is incorporated into many of the events and activities sponsored
by Beta Gamma Epsilon. The 2006-2008 Honors Study Topic is: Gold, Gods,
and Glory: The Global Dynamics of Power.
- Leadership - Several Beta Gamma
Epsilon activities are tailored by the chapter to promote development of
leadership skills for members, officers, students and members of the
community, and encourages members to assume leadership roles in Society,
college, and community.
- Service - International
Headquarters encourages chapters to base many of their service projects
on the International Service Project. This could be at the college level
or in the community and stresses to others the value and need of
providing service. Phi Theta Kappa's Service Program for 2006-2008 is -
Operation Green: Improving Our Communities (a partnership with Keep
America Beautiful, Inc.).
- Fellowship - Fellowship is a
major aspect of Beta Gamma Epsilon. Friends, family, and fun are a
winning combination. Chapters are encouraged to participate in
fellowship with sister chapters, chapters across the Ohio Region, and
across the nation to offer a balance of social and scholarly events.
