Well
Site Training Center opens
The first phase of Stark State College’s expansion
in downtown Canton was realized this fall with the opening of the
Well Site Training Center at Third Street Southeast and Cherry
Avenue. With this new 7,000-square-foot facility and expanded
programs, Stark State is becoming a regional training hub for the
oil and gas industry. Funding for the Well Site Training Center,
and the new Downtown Canton Satellite Center, came from a
$10-million State of Ohio capital appropriation awarded in January
2012.
“This
facility showcases our mission of creating public/private
partnerships to provide students with state-of-the-art education
and training and prepare the workforce needed by business and
industry in the region. Students will have hands-on learning
experiences, much like those they would experience in the field or
on oil rigs, but in a controlled and safe learning environment.” - Stark State
College President, Dr. Para Jones

Culinary
arts expanding
The culinary arts
program at Stark State College has grown consistently since it was
reintroduced in 2012, with close to 200 students currently enrolled
and the first class graduating this fall. Under the direction of Chef
Jeff McKenna, the program is headed towards American Culinary
Federation accreditation, which will make Stark State’s program one
of the few ACF-backed programs in Northeast Ohio. A much-needed
expansion of the culinary facility is in the planning stages. To
support culinary projects or scholarships, call Brenda at
