Unexpected Gifts
Janet Duncan - January 23, 2003

I had a very irate student call
me about some money which was due her. She became very abusive on the phone
with me. Her language was not the best and I understood she was frustrated.
It started to get out-of-hand and I had to be firm with her. I informed her
that I did not appreciate the language she was using with me, but I would
do what I could for her. I'm not sure, but I think she hung up on me.
Anyway, I followed up on it right away and her money was held because she
needed to do something. We run into this a lot, but she was really out for
blood. I called her back and let her know what she had to do. Imagine my
surprise when I received a beautiful flower with a written apology. It of
course made my day.

My Mother was in the hospital
with an extended illness and after several months passed away. Her funeral
was held in Magnolia. I was quite surprised when most of my fellow
employees from my office showed up for calling hours. Magnolia is quite a
distance away and yet they made the trip down to support my family and
myself. I felt very loved that day.
