Suggestions for a successful classroom experience:
What TO DO:

  • Be sure to attend every class regularly and participate in discussions. If you must miss a class, check with your instructor as soon as possible to see what assignments you missed. Do not ask the instructor to give you the lecture over the phone
  • Come to class prepared with reading and assignments complete. Don’t wait to complete reading assignments until the night before the test. You’ll learn the material more easily if you pace yourself.
  • Always arrive on time and take tests as scheduled. If you must miss a test, please consult with your instructor as soon as possible.
  • Stay alert in class and take good notes. At test time, you’ll be glad you did!
  • Ask questions about tests and assignments to make sure you understand what is expected.
  • Show consideration for your instructor by addressing him or her as requested. And, be considerate of faculty and fellow students by being polite and saying “please” and “thank you.”
  • Having side conversations with other students while the instructor is trying to speak to the class, or sleeping during class, is not only impolite, it will cause you to miss important class information.
  • Cell phones and pagers should be turned off or set to a silent mode when in the classroom and labs. . Radio/cassette players and use ear phones during class is prohibited. Tape recording of classroom lectures is permitted with instructor’s permission.
  • Classrooms and labs are not appropriate places for children. Please make alternative arrangements ahead of time so that your child will be properly cared for while you attend class.
  • It is smart to make alternative transportation arrangements ahead of time in case you have car problems.
  • Never stop attending classes without filing the proper paperwork with the Registration Office.
