Senator Brown meets with Stark State College honor society in Washington

(WASHINGTON, D.C. – May 26, 2015) – U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) met with members of Stark State College’s Beta Beta Beta (TriBeta) Biological Honor Society. The group attended Brown’s weekly coffee with constituents during a visit to Washington, D.C. Stark State’s Tri-Beta chapter aims to promote an appreciation of biology within their school and their community.

Stark State STEM projects among 20 semifinalists in the NSF Community College Innovation Challenge

Two Stark State College STEM projects aiming to change those statements and engage young children in STEM education were among 20 semifinalists in the National Science Foundation (NSF) Community College Innovation Challenge.

Stark State College names Spartan Media Award winners

Spartan Media Awards(North Canton, OH – May 15, 2015) –The 2015 Spartan Media Award winners recently were named by Stark State College’s information security and digital media department. Students from digital photography, commercial music, graphic arts, digital video and 3D graphics and animation submitted work for presentation to judges, along with peers, family and friends.

Len didn’t give up when she dropped out of school at 15, survived an abusive marriage or raised five children as a single mother by washing and sorting radishes on a farm for 29 years.

She didn’t throw in the towel in her 50s when she discovered she was dyslexic and it took her eight attempts to earn her GED.

Stark State College Phi Theta Kappa chapter earns state and national awards, inducts new members

(North Canton, OH – May 8, 2015) – Stark State College’s Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) honor society has racked up both state and national awards for 2014-2015.

The Beta Gamma Epsilon chapter was named a Top 100 Chapter among the 1,280 PTK international chapters while chapter member Teresa Cutlip, a computer science major, earned a Distinguished Chapter Member Award and Cherie Barth earned the Continued Excellence Award for Advisors.

Stark State College commencement set for May 17

Cliff Rosenberger(North Canton, OH – May 6, 2015) – Stark State College will hold commencement ceremonies for its May 2015 graduates at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 17 at the Canton Memorial Civic Center.

More than 780 degrees will be awarded in business and entrepreneurial studies, education, engineering technologies, health and human services, information technologies, liberal arts, mathematics and sciences.
