Community members are invited to Stark State College on Nov. 12 from 11 a.m.- noon for a salute to students, faculty, staff and community members who have served our country in the U.S. military.
Guest speaker Brook Harless, Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame member, is a U.S. Army veteran who holds an associate degree from Central Texas College and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. She is a graduate of Stark County Government Leadership Academy, Grassroots Leadership Academy, American Legion Extension Institute and the Stark County Citizen Police Academy. A current participant in the Leadership Stark County Signature program, she was a recipient of Stark County’s 20 under 40 award.
On behalf of veterans, she has worked as a Strike Team leader for Concerned Veterans for America, an executive board member of Serving Area Military Center, a Post Legion 44 delegate and adjutant, an American Red Cross caseworker for Services to Armed Forces, an Ohio Veteran Coalition co-chair, a member of the Stark County Veterans Task Force and the co-chair of the Stark County Veteran Stand Down. She also volunteers in the community with numerous organizations and works to improve the lives of veterans, from testifying to state legislators to helping with assistance in housing, food, VA claims, financial advice, ID cards, flu shots and more.
Dee Ann Covey, executive director of the Stark County Veterans Service Commission, will recognize the veterans in attendance.
The Stark State College Chorale will provide patriotic music and Green High School ROTC members will serve as Color Guard. A light lunch will follow.
