Local photographer’s fairytale works on display at Stark State College

A selection of photography from the one-woman exhibit A Long Time Ago: The Fairytales of Mandy Altimus Pond will be on display through Feb. 26 in the Stark State College gallery on the second floor of the Student Center at 6200 Frank Ave. NW in North Canton.

The exhibit debuted at Translations Art Gallery in Canton and traveled to Lynden Gallery in Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania.

Altimus Pond, who works as the archivist at the Massillon Museum, owns her own photography business in Massillon. Her photographs have been exhibited in juried shows in Ohio, Michigan and Vermont; published in the highly competitive International Photography Annual (INPHA 2 and 4); and have won several awards.

She has published two photography books, A Long Time Ago and Images of World War I, the latter a collaboration with Faircrest Memorial Middle School and ArtsinStark to teach students about World War I and recreate photographs from the war. She was the recipient of a 2015 ArtsinStark special projects grant, and produced the exhibit Face of Hunger in Stark County, Ohio.

All art is available for purchase with 25 percent of the proceeds going to the College’s aesthetics fund for the purchase of artwork for the campus.

The gallery is open to the public from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, (closed Monday, Jan. 18), 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. to noon Saturday. For additional information about the show, call 330-494-6170, Ext. 4330 or email devans@starkstate.edu.
