Stark State College hosts mental health and wellness series


(North Canton, OH – March 6, 2014) – Positive Steps, a mental health and wellness series hosted by Stark State College, will continue with a presentation on March 19 at 3 p.m. on effective stress management by Dr. Bryan Gerber, assistant professor of psychology at Stark State. He will share the system of Tai Sabaki, a type of Japanese martial arts body management.

Also on March 19, Wellness Wednesday will include interactive stress-free activities and free items from 1-3 p.m. All events in the series will be held in M101 in the Business and Entrepreneurial Studies Building on the campus at 6200 Frank Ave. NW in Jackson Township.

Other events in the series are:
April 1, 10 a.m., Kelley Brown, of Foundations, will speak about “How I Navigated the College Years: Living with Mental Illness,” with a message of hope and empowerment in living with bipolar disorder.

April 16, noon, Becky Lindesmith of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, will speak on “Student Veterans: Transitioning to Student Life,” encouraging veterans to maximize available benefits.

May 1, noon, Carole Vesely, of the Crisis Intervention and Recovery Center, will discuss “Suicide Prevention Basics,” seeking understanding and prevention for a growing public health problem.
