Stark State College offers stopped-out Summit County students a new chance for a degree

(North Canton, OH – Sept. 27, 2019) –  A new program at Stark State College offers Akron-area students with an outstanding balance at the College a chance to clear their account, enabling them to re-enroll and complete their college degree.

Restart My College Career gets former students back on track by wiping out their outstanding balance of $1,500 or less. Participants must have at least at 2.0 grade point average and six or more earned credit hours.

Operating as a pilot program in Summit County, Restart is funded by an $11,000 grant from an Ohio C2C Network Ground Game Mini Grant supported by the KnowledgeWorks Foundation.

“This is an excellent opportunity for those who need to overcome the financial barriers to completing their education,” said Drew Felberg, director of Student Services at Stark State College Akron.

Helping students complete a degree is a boost for the local economy, because jobs are waiting for Stark State graduates. In this region over the next six years, more than 300,000 middle skills jobs will be open, paying between $36,000 and $42,000 in starting wages.

For more information about Restart My College Career, contact Drew Felberg at 330-494-6170 ext. 4827, email afelberg@starkstate.edu or visit www.starkstate.edu/restart.
