(North Canton, OH – March 29, 2019) – The mixed media photography works of Michele Waalkes will be featured through April 29 in the Stark State College gallery on the second floor of the Student Center.
Her show is titled “Vantage Points.”
“I love the sense of discovery in traveling near or far, of meandering through new places without necessarily having a specific destination in mind,” Waalkes said. “Unexpectedly finding new settings saturated with history, beauty and meaning captivates me, and the theme that emerges most frequently in my work centers around the unknown. With the layering of imagery and the use of different vantage points, I seek to create a new sense of place within each piece.”
Waalkes, an artist, curator, teaching artist and adjunct instructor, earned a bachelor’s degree in art from Malone University. Her current work seeks to push the scope of her photography onto different surfaces and 3D planes. Her work has been exhibited in various regional and national venues, as well as in Italy.
In addition to creating her own artwork, she also is involved in many public and educational art projects and has curated numerous exhibits in Northeast Ohio.
