Dental Hygiene Clinic
Welcome
Welcome to the Dental Hygiene Clinic at Stark State College. Our students and our highly qualified dental professionals look forward to providing you with educational, preventive and therapeutic dental hygiene services at a nominal fee.
The clinic is open throughout the year, including summers, and is available to all area residents aged 5 and older. Daytime and evening hours vary each semester.
Due to the educational nature of our clinic, your treatment will progress at a slower pace than in a dentist’s office, but you can be assured that your quality of care meets the highest standards.
Thank you for participating in a program that benefits both our patients and our allied dental health professions students who will become your future dental service providers.
Appointments are required. Please call 330-305-6610. We only accept phone calls for appointments. We do not treat dental emergencies. All patients must present a valid driver’s license or state ID (guardian’s ID will suffice for minors). Please, no walk-ins.

Services
Our dental hygiene students perform the following preventive and therapeutic services under the supervision of licensed dental professionals.
- Health screening (blood pressure check, oral cancer screening)
- Dental examination
- Oral prophylaxis (cleaning and polishing the teeth)
- Oral health instruction (with home care kit)
- Necessary X-rays
- Fluoride treatment
- Denture/removable appliance cleaning
- Sealants (when indicated)
- Nutritional counseling
- Risk assessment
Our services are not intended to replace comprehensive dental care provided by a dentist. If your dental exam reveals that you have needs beyond what we can treat in our clinic, you will be referred to your dentist or a specialist. If you do not have a dentist, we can assist you in finding one.
Treatment costs
Our fees are minimal to offset the extra time you spend at our clinic. They cover just some of the cost of supplies during treatment. There is no fee for the screening visit. Cash or check payment is expected at check-in on the day services are provided. We do not process third-party payments.
Not all services are available every semester. The clinic reserves the right to revise fees at any time for treatment that is not in progress.
We provide an examination, cleaning and polishing, oral health instruction and home care kit. As needed, we also offer dental X-rays, fluoride treatment and removable appliance care.
- $6 for children (5 to 10 years).
- $10 for adolescents and adults (11 to 59 years).
- $8 for seniors (60 years and over).
- $8 for Stark State College faculty, staff and current students.
- Stark State ADHP alumni are eligible for free dental hygiene care.
- Veterans are eligible for free dental hygiene care.
- $5 for duplicate X-rays.
- $5 for panoramic X-ray only (dentist prescription required).
We may offer additional services to patients upon completion of their comprehensive care plan
- Sealants are $5 per tooth with a $15 maximum per patient (must be prescribed by a clinic dentist).
Becoming a patient
- First, you will be scheduled for a screening visit (about 45 minutes). Children typically do not need a screening visit.
- If you meet the program’s educational needs, you will be matched with a student who will provide your dental care.
- Unlike private dental practice where a dental cleaning usually takes an hour or two to complete, you will be scheduled for three-hour appointments. You may need to return two, three or more times to have everything completed depending on the complexity of your dental health needs.
Our students have a limited amount of time to complete their clinical requirements. They depend on you to help them graduate. Their time, like yours, is very valuable. If you must cancel an appointment, call 330-305-6610 at least 24 hours in advance. Excessive missed appointments, cancellations or tardiness may result in your dismissal as a clinic patient. Your cooperation will help us to serve you better.
All minors (ages 17 and younger) must be accompanied by a parent/guardian to provide consent for treatment. The parent/guardian must remain in the Dental Clinic during the minor’s entire appointment.
Stark State College Dental Hygiene Clinic patients have the right to:
- Considerate, respectful and confidential treatment.
- Reasonable continuity and completion of treatment.
- Access to complete and current information about their oral health condition.
- Advance knowledge of the cost of treatment.
- An explanation of recommended treatment and alternatives, the option to refuse treatment, the risk of no treatment, and expected outcomes of various treatments.
- Informed consent.
- Treatment that meets the Standard of Care in the profession.
