Student advising
Find this information via > Tools > MAP (My Academic Plan).
Your Gateway or academic advisor can help you choose classes for upcoming semesters and implement other elements of your successful college game plan. If you have 15 credits or less, you’re assigned to a Gateway advisor. If you have earned more than 15 credits, you are transitioned to an academic advisor.
- Not sure who your advisor is? Find out by going to mySSC and following the path to MAP (My Academic Plan).
- Have questions or need assistance? Contact Gateway Student Services.
- Virtual advising is also available. Click here to find out more.
- Looking for the Returning Student Advising Center (RAC)? We typically provide this service when registration opens for the upcoming semester. Visit the RAC information page on mySSC for available dates and times.
Testing Center
Here’s where you’ll get computer-based or pencil-and-paper testing specific to courses. Some courses allow you to take computer-based tests outside of class in the Testing Center, usually within a timeframe of three to four days. Math testing for both main campus and Akron is held in other locations. Please see the Math Learning Center for more details.
Current students, visit the Testing Center page on mySSC for hours and availability.

If you’re a registered Stark State student, you have access to short-term free borrowing of printed course textbooks via our Textbook Lending Library. You may check out a print book for up to a week at a time and can renew borrowing as needed, subject to availability, in person at our main campus location in E216 or our Akron campus location in A003.
