Program overview

Hands-on electrical engineering technology training for real-world industrial careers

Stark State’s electrical/electronic engineering technology program prepares you to work with electrical power, electronics, and control systems across a wide range of industrial applications. You’ll learn how electrical and electronic systems are designed, programmed, and maintained in modern workplaces. 

Study AC and DC circuits, robotics, automation, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), and motor controls while gaining extensive hands‑on experience with lab equipment and techniques. The program blends electronics with traditional electrical power, machines, and control systems, making it ideal if you want a practical, career‑focused engineering technology degree. 

You’ll complete coursework that reflects real‑world electrical and electronic engineering scenarios, preparing you for roles such as electrical engineering technician, industrial process control technician, electrical technician, or engineering assistant. You can go right to work with your associate’s degree or transfer to a four-year university to pursue a bachelor’s degree.

  • Electrical/Electronic Engineering Technology (EEET) is a discipline that applies engineering principles for the purpose of maintaining, analyzing, designing, building, testing and electrical equipment and electrical controls for manufacturing equipment. 
  • Stark State offers an Associate degree of Applied Science (AAS) in Electrical/Electronic Engineering Technology.   
  • Along with the Electrical/Electronic Engineering Technology degree, Stark State also offers an Associate of Science in Pre-Engineering with and Electrical Engineering focus. 
  • Stark State also offers Career Enhancement Certificates (CEC) as building blocks to obtaining the EEET degree.  These CECs focus on courses in Electrical Troubleshooting, Industrial Electricity and Electronics and Industrial Controls. 

  • There is an articulation/transfer agreement with the University of Akron. Our AAS electrical/electronic engineering technology transfers to a Bachelor of Science in engineering technology (BSET).
  • There are articulation/transfer agreements with University of Akron and Mount Union. Our AS pre‑engineering degrees at Stark State articulate to a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering (BSEE) degrees at UA and Mount Union.  
  • The Ohio Transfer 36 ensures that general education credits (English, Math, Natural Sciences, Humanities etc.) transfer among Ohio public colleges. 

The Associate of Applied Science degree in Electrical/Electronic(s) Engineering Technology is accredited by the Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission of ABET, under the commission’s General Criteria and Program Criteria for Electrical/Electronic(s) Engineering Technology and similarly named programs.

  • According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), for Electrical and Electronic engineering technicians, it is expected that on average there will be approximately 8,400 job openings per year from 2024 to 2034. 
  • It should be noted that EEET graduates are usually qualified for technician/technologist roles rather than full electrical engineering roles unless further degrees are earned.

Most students attending Stark State work either part- or full-time.  Most classes are offered both day and evening with some classes being offered online or as hybrid courses.

Most of the technical courses are offered as in-person or as a hybrid classes due to the hands-on laboratory portion of these courses.  Many of the non-technical courses can be taken either online or in-person.

Small class sizes help you get the attention you need! A 13:1 student to faculty ratio is typical for most EEET courses.

Most of the technical classes include hands‑on laboratory assignments. Part time internships and Full-time job opportunities can be found through our Career Services Office.
