Welcome to a field where math, science, creativity and problem-solving come together.
At Stark State, you’ll learn how to create and test the engines, tools, machinery and equipment people use every day. Our mechanical engineering technology degree can put you on the path to an in-demand and good-paying job. If you’re interested in continuing your education, we have transfer opportunities to put you on the path to earning your bachelor’s degree.
Program details
With a strong emphasis on practical application and experience, our program teaches you about mechanical principles involving design, tolerance, stress, strain, friction and vibration. You’ll conduct projects, record and represent data, analyze results and prepare formal reports.

- Apply technical skills and modern tools effectively. Use industry-relevant technical competencies, software and tools to identify, analyze and solve engineering problems in your career.

Both AAS engineering technology and AS pre-engineering degrees articulate to BS degrees at The University of Akron. We have a transfer agreement with The University of Akron for our AAS mechanical engineering technology degree into the college’s BSMET pathway.
Pre-engineering
We have articulation/transfer agreements with The University of Akron and the University of Mount Union. Stark State AS pre‑engineering degrees articulate to BSME degrees at both institutions.
Ohio Transfer 36 ensures that general education credits (English, math, natural sciences, humanities, etc.) transfer among Ohio public colleges.

The Associate of Applied Science degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology is accredited by the Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission of ABET, under the commission’s General Criteria and Program Criteria for Mechanical Engineering Technology and similarly named programs.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, it’s estimated that there will be, on average, 3,200 job openings for mechanical engineering technicians/technologies per year from 2024 to 2034. MET graduates are usually qualified for technician/technologist roles rather than full mechanical engineering roles unless further degrees are earned.
Our mechanical engineering technology programs offer flexibility, including part‑time enrollment, online or hybrid courses. Some lab courses are hands-on and must be taken in person for accreditation purposes.
We typically have a 13:1 student-to-faculty ratio for most mechanical engineering technology courses. This means you’ll get the support and attention you need.
