Mathematicians can work in a variety of fields, including actuarial science (insurance), data science, finance, research and education.

FAQs

Yes. Stark State’s mathematics degree is built specifically with transfer in mind.

We’re part of the Ohio Guaranteed Transfer Pathway program, which helps ensure our two-year degree in mathematics transfers smoothly and efficiently to any four-year degree program at an Ohio public college or university. The courses in our mathematics program are pre-approved at the state level to transfer.

If you’re looking to transfer to a private or out-of-state college or university, contact that school regarding transfer requirements before taking courses. We maintain close partnerships with local private colleges, including Walsh University, the University of Mount Union and Ashland University.

You should work closely with your academic advisor throughout your time at Stark State. They can help you decide the right classes to take and even help you reach out to the mathematics departments at four-year institutions.

Most of the required and elective courses are offered both online and in person. However, our higher-level math courses, starting with calculus, are only offered in person.

We offer tutoring in math for all majors, including mathematics majors, in our Math Learning Center. Math tutoring is available at main campus in North Canton in room E214, at the Akron location in room A108, and online through the college’s Learning Management System. Your academic advisor can help you navigate your program from course choices to transfer.
