Program overview
Medical billers play a key role in the financial health of healthcare providers by preparing and submitting claims to third-party payers, resolving billing issues, and maximizing reimbursement for services rendered.
This short-term certificate, offered entirely online, is 21 credit hours that prepare you for entry-level employment as a medical biller.
A medical billing specialist is responsible for preparing and submitting claims to third party payers for reimbursement. Youโll work with claims and claim denials to ensure maximum reimbursement for services provided, resolveโฏpatient billing issues, answer questions from insurance providers and be accountable for the financial health of the revenue cycle.
In this program, youโll learn how to submit primary and secondary claims, how to verify a patientโs benefits and the steps to auditing and appealing an insurance carrierโs denial. As with all healthcare professions, there is an emphasis on confidentiality of the patientโs health record and compliant release of information.
When you complete this program, youโll be eligible to sit for certification exams. See the National Health Association website for more information about the certified billing and coding specialist exam atโฏnhanow.com/certifications/billing-codingโฏor the American Association of Professional Coders for the certified professional biller certification atโฏaapc.com/certification/cpb/.
