Stark Stateโs applied sociology program helps you earn your initial credentials affordably while preparing you to transfer to a fourโyear sociology program or move into entryโlevel professional roles.
Become familiar with foundational concepts in sociological thought, research methods, and critical analysis. Along the way, you build transferable skills that support both continued academic study and employment in public and private service organizations.
Program details
Youโll study social behavior, cultural and ethnic diversity, and the historical and contemporary forces shaping society. This program prepares you for entryโlevel roles such as research assistant, marketing assistant, analytics assistant, caseworker, or public service worker, while also supporting transfer opportunities to fourโyear institutions.
Youโll complete coursework designed to strengthen research, communication, teamwork, and ethical decisionโmaking skills, including a capstone project in sociological research.

Stark State College offers multiple ways for students to pursue prior learning credit. Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) can apply to knowledge gained from work experience; training programs and/or certifications; military service; and CLEP, IB, or AP exams.
