The Stark State Security Office is a National WebCheck Agency that provides background check services for students, faculty and staff. Background checks are available by appointment only; walk-ins are not accepted.
Who needs a background check?
Some academic programs, including health programs, require students to complete a criminal background check before admission, placement or participation in clinical/practicum experiences. Review your specific program requirements to determine whether a background check is required.
Health program requirements
Students applying to Stark State health programs should be aware that:
- Criminal background checks may be required prior to application or admission to a health program.
- Both an FBI and Ohio BCI check are required when applicable.
- Results may take up to 45 days to process.
- Certain criminal offenses may disqualify a student from:
- Completing clinical or practicum training
- Taking licensure or certification examinations
- Obtaining employment in the field

Background check fees are:
- BCI check: $35
- FBI check: $35
- Combined BCI & FBI check: $70
Payment options
Payments may be made:
- At the Cashier Window on the third floor of the Student Services Building
- Through the myBill+payment portal in mySSC

Yes. Background checks are completed by appointment only. Walk-ins are not accepted.
Background check appointments are available:
- Monday–Thursday: 8:15 a.m. – noon and 1–4:15 p.m.
- Friday: 8:15 a.m. – noon and 1–3 p.m.
If you’re unsure which check is required, contact your program’s department chair before scheduling or paying for a background check.
Yes. All health programs require both a BCI and FBI background check, with the exception of the Medical Coding Certificate program.
If you’re only required to obtain a BCI check but have not lived continuously in Ohio for the past five years, you must complete both a BCI and FBI check. This is a requirement of the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification & Investigation (BCI&I).
A parent or guardian must accompany students under the age of 18 to their background check appointment.
Bring:
- Proof of payment (cashier receipt)
- A valid driver’s license, state ID or passport
Background checks cannot be completed without these items. CCP students do not need to provide proof of payment.
Background checks typically take about two weeks to process, but may take up to 30–45 days.
A background check is valid for one year from the date it was completed.
Yes. Stark State Security keeps a copy for up to one year from the completion date. A photo ID is required to request a copy, and only one copy set will be provided.
Yes. BCI copies may be sent to another agency by completing a Request for Copy Form and submitting it to BCI&I. There is no charge within the first 30 days; after 30 days, the fee is $8.
No. FBI background check results cannot be distributed to a third party.
