In light of the still-evident spread of COVID-19, we continue to assess the safest, most effective approaches for fall semester. We want you to be safe in pursuing your education, so our guidelines have been developed after much research and discussion across all segments of the Stark State community and in consultation with state and federal health officials and their guidelines. As recommendations during the pandemic evolve, we will regularly reassess, update and communicate our response.

COVID reporting

Students and employees should report

  • potential COVID-19 exposure
  • a suspected or confirmed case
  • if they are experiencing symptoms.

Please use the self reporting form if you experience any of these three conditions.

Note: If you have been tested for COVID-19, you must quarantine until you receive the results and/or instructions from your doctor or local health department.

This COVID-19 dashboard, updated weekly, provides statistics related to positive COVID-19 cases as self-reported by Stark State College students, faculty, staff and visitors.

This data is shared in a way that protects medical and educational privacy of individuals.

There is no definitive number of positive cases that would lead to a change in campus operations. However, with this information, along with advice and guidelines from local, state and national health agencies and experts, including the Centers for Disease Control, we will make ongoing evaluations and decisions about operations, class modalities and safety measures on our campus and other locations.

Campus safety measures

Symptoms to watch and steps to staying safe

We will continue to follow health and safety guidelines from local, state and national health agencies and experts, including the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) in consultation with our state and local health departments. Based on current guidelines, the following measures are in place:

  • daily health assessments of anyone entering the buildings
  • required face coverings in common/public areas and classrooms for anyone on campus
  • social distancing of a minimum of six feet
  • a limited number of entrances into college facilities to help with health assessments and better control of foot traffic flow
  • continued deep-cleaning and sanitizing of high-touch surfaces such as door handles, doors, counters, tables, etc. and providing hand sanitizer and sanitizing wipes to all areas throughout the college
  • air filtration systems cleaning throughout all facilities
  • reminders of proper hygiene and hand washing/sanitation posted throughout the facilities and in restroom areas
  • suspension of public gatherings and large events in all Stark State facilities at least through fall semester

Student/faculty/staff expectations

Working together, we can keep our campus safe.
When you’re on campus, in addition to face covering requirements, please keep these expectations in mind:

  • restrooms
    Please comply with the capacity requests noted on restroom door signs
  • sidewalks/hallways
    In densely populated areas, follow signage for social distance spacing and direction of travel. In the absence of signage, stay to the right in any hallway or on stairs.
  • elevators
    Occupancy is limited to one or two people and will increase wait times; please remember to wear a face covering at all times.
  • classrooms
    Classroom capacity has been reduced to meet social distancing requirements and seats and computer monitors are removed or marked off. When waiting to enter a classroom in use, please wait until the entire class (including instructor) has left the room before entering.

Cashier’s windows at main campus are open. If you have a question and prefer to call before coming to campus, contact us at 330-494-6170 ext. 4404 or 4060.

Counseling support services

eStarkState and Blackboard
To access your courses online, you will use Blackboard. Resources and help to use Blackboard are available via eStarkState and within Blackboard. If you have never taken an online course and you have questions and concerns, please reach out to your instructor or department chair. For help to sign in to Blackboard, contact the Help Desk. We are here to support you and help you through this transitional time.

Meetings and events

All campus club meetings and other College-wide events have been cancelled or postponed through the end of the semester. These include, but are not limited to, career fairs, open house events, Student Symposium, Spring Fling, pinning ceremonies, Scholars & Benefactors Luncheon, etc. Please continue to monitor your College email, College social media channels and the website for updates on events.

Stay connected

Check email frequently Your college email account will be the primary communication tool during this time. You can sync your college email to your personal email account. See tips on mystarkstate.

Also, most courses will be using Blackboard, which also has a communication feature. Check your Blackboard often to make sure you don’t miss messages from your instructors.
