FAQ on coronavirus protocol: for students
We at Stark State College want you to know that we’re here to support you during these unprecedented times. Your health, safety and academic success are of the utmost importance to us.
College leaders meet regularly to address and update information regarding the coronavirus COVID-19. We are working with state and local health authorities and updating procedures in compliance with them. Email questions to email@example.com.
These are frequently asked questions about how we are protecting our students, faculty and staff while continuing our teaching and learning mission:
Courses online and in the classroom
We are pleased to announce that we plan to bring students back to campus for fall semester, in keeping with Governor DeWine’s plan to Restart Ohio and college planning. As always, Stark State will offer a full schedule of online courses and degrees for students who wish to stay close to home and/or enjoy the flexibility of online classes. Stark State recently was named among the top 50 best of 1,100 U.S. community colleges for online learning.
As you look toward fall semester, if you are a current student and need assistance registering, please reach out to your advisor, the virtual Returning Student Advising Center or contact Gateway Student Services by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. All of these resources and more are available to you this summer as you plan for your future, both virtually and in-person.
All incoming students, please connect with our admissions office who will be available on campus beginning July 6, or by phone or email 330-494-6170 | email@example.com.
Please see the on campus safety precautions below which are being taken to ensure our students, faculty and staff feel safe returning to campus.
On campus status
We are slowly resuming on-campus activity (with social distancing and face coverings required), including access to Gateway Student Services (admissions, financial aid, and registration). Starting July 6, Gateway will be open during normal business hours. (Closing at 3 pm on Friday through July 31.)
The main campus computer lab in C106 is now open Monday – Thursday 9 am – 3 pm and Friday 9 am – 2 pm; SSC Akron’s computer lab in A009 has hours of Monday – Thursday 8 am – 4 pm and Friday 8 am – 3 pm.
Study and common areas, practice labs and tutoring centers on campus are not accessible. Tutoring is still available online, as is many of our other campus resources (please see the campus resource section below for contact information). Please note that face coverings must be worn on campus.
SSC Akron and Stark State’s main campus continue to have limited entrances during this time and security staff will be monitoring them closely.
We will continue to follow health and safety guidelines from local, state and national health agencies and experts, including the Center for Disease Control (CDC). Based on current guidelines, the following measures are in place.
- daily health assessments of anyone entering the buildings
- required face coverings in common/public areas and classrooms for anyone on campus
- social distancing
- a limited number of entrances into college facilities to help with health assessments and better control of foot traffic flow
- continued deep-cleaning and sanitizing of high-touch surfaces such as door handles, doors, counters, tables, etc. and providing hand sanitizer and sanitizing wipes to all areas throughout the college
- cleaning of the air filtration systems throughout all facilities
- reminders of proper hygiene and hand washing/sanitation posted throughout the facilities and in restroom areas
- suspension of public gatherings and large events in all Stark State facilities at least through fall semester
