FAQ on coronavirus protocol: for students

Stark State College has an emergency response team that is meeting daily to address and update information regarding the coronavirus, COVID-19. The team is comprised of the president, executive council members, director of marketing and communications, director of human resources, chief of security, coordinator of emergency planning and security and director of information technology. We are working with state and local health authorities and updating procedures in compliance with them.Email questions to responseteam@starkstate.edu.

These are frequently asked questions about how we are protecting our students, faculty and staff while continuing our teaching and learning mission:

Courses until further notice
All classes now have been moved to a virtual format. If you have questions or concerns, please reach out to your instructors or program chair, or contact Gateway Student Services, eStarkState or the Help Desk.

Books and course materials
Your instructors are working hard to adjust and prepare course materials for online presentation. If your class does require a physical book, you are permitted to pick up your books at the College Store on main campus or in Akron. Please be patient with this adjusted process, but we will get you the materials you need to be successful in your class.

Bookstore
Both Akron and main campus bookstores open by appointment only until further notice.

Meetings and events
All campus club meetings and other College-wide events have been cancelled or postponed through the end of the semester. These include, but are not limited to, career fairs, open house events, Student Symposium, Spring Fling, pinning ceremonies, Scholars & Benefactors Luncheon, etc. Please continue to monitor your College email, College social media channels and the website for updates on events.

Stay connected – check email frequently
Your college email account will be the primary communication tool during this time. You can sync your college email to your personal email account. See tips on mystarkstate.

Also, most courses will be using Blackboard, which also has a communication feature. Check your Blackboard often to make sure you don’t miss messages from your instructors.

Do not come on campus
All classes are being converted to virtual formats, so there shouldn’t be a need for students to be on campus, except in the instance of picking up books. This means computer labs, study and common areas, practice labs and tutoring centers on campus will not be accessible.Tutoring is still available online.

If you feel you must be on campus, however, call the College first (330-494-6170) to discuss your need and make an appointment if necessary. SSC Akron and Stark State’s main campus will have limited entrances during this time, and security staff will be monitoring them closely.

Until further notice, anyone entering the College will be questioned and required to sign in/out. Also be aware that as a precaution, our security team is checking the temperature of everyone who enters the building.

Help is available
This is a challenging time for all of us, but you are not in this alone! There are online resources and help available via eStarkState and Blackboard. If you have never taken an online course and you have questions and concerns, please reach out to your instructor, department chair or the Help Desk. We are here to support you and help you through this transitional time. If you do not have access to a computer or internet service, please notify your instructor.
