Coronavirus update

Local health departments and the CDC recommend that vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals in areas of “substantial” or higher COVID-19 transmission wear masks indoors to protect against the spread of the Delta COVID-19 variant.

In keeping with those recommendations, Stark State College requires all faculty, staff, students and campus visitors to wear masks indoors on campus, regardless of vaccination status. This includes offices, classrooms, common areas, meeting rooms, etc., where more than one person gathers.

The decision to require masks maintains the safety, health and wellness of our faculty, staff and students, and is in keeping with the recommendations of federal, state and local health authorities. If and when both Stark and Summit Counties fall below the “substantial” level of transmission, we will move from requiring masks to recommending them. Until then, masks will be required indoors at all Stark State locations. In classrooms where masks cannot be worn, face shields will be permissible.

As always, please continue to wash your hands frequently, monitor yourself for symptoms and stay home if you are sick.

Regardless of your vaccination status, you should report:

  • any COVID-19 exposure
  • suspected COVID-19 symptoms
  •  A COVID-19 test, whether the results are positive or negative

Please use the self reporting form if you experience any of these three conditions.

Note: Additionally, protocols for exposures have been lifted for those who are fully vaccinated. Those who are not fully vaccinated will still need to quarantine for 14 days upon exposure. If you believe you have been exposed to COVID-19, please continue to report as previously directed, whether you are vaccinated or not.

This COVID-19 dashboard provides statistics related to positive COVID-19 cases as self-reported by Stark State College students, faculty, staff and visitors.

This data is shared in a way that protects medical and educational privacy of individuals.

There is no definitive number of positive cases that would lead to a change in campus operations. However, with this information, along with advice and guidelines from local, state and national health agencies and experts, including the Centers for Disease Control, we will make ongoing evaluations and decisions about operations, class modalities and safety measures on our campus and other locations.

Campus safety measures

We will continue to follow health and safety guidelines from local, state and national health agencies and experts, including the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) in consultation with our state and local health departments. Based on current guidelines, the following measures are in place:

  • continued deep-cleaning and sanitizing of high-touch surfaces such as door handles, doors, counters, tables, etc. and providing hand sanitizer and sanitizing wipes to all areas throughout the college
  • air filtration systems cleaning throughout all facilities
  • reminders of proper hygiene and hand washing/sanitation posted throughout the facilities and in restroom areas
