Ohio’s TechCred program gives employers the chance to upskill current and future employees in technology-focused fields. Employers who submit successful applications can be reimbursed up to $2,000 per credential per employee, up to $30,000 per employer for each round of funding.

Many certificates and certifications can be completed online.

Five steps to get started

Employees eligible for tuition reimbursement through the TechCred Program must be W-2 employees and residents of the State of Ohio. In order to submit an application for the tuition reimbursement, you must first create a TechCred account and apply for a Supplier ID number with the State of Ohio (see instructions below).

  1. Go to the TechCred website (techcred.ohio.gov/apply).
  2. Select option to create a new account.
  • It is recommended that the person who will be administering to the account and responsible for monitoring emails and responding to deadlines set-up the account. This person will receive all notices regarding approval, reminders etc. and will have the password to access the account to submit applications for funding.
  • Typically a representative from HR or finance.
  • You will need the company tax ID number.

APPLY FOR A SUPPLIER ID

If your company does not already have a Supplier ID number for the State of Ohio, your will be directed to submit an application for one in order to create your TechCred Account and submit an application for tuition reimbursement.

  • This might take up to 10 business days, so you are encourage to do this in advance of the application deadline.
  • In the event you do not have a Supplier ID assigned one week prior to the application deadline, the application submission process is typically unlocked in order for you to be able to submit a contingent application. The application is accepted provided that you submit the Supplier ID to TechCred within 10 business days in order to complete your application and remove the contingencies.
  1. Log-into your account at TechCred link: https://ohid.ohio.gov/wps/portal/gov/ohid/login
  2. Click on the Apply Button
  3. Select the Appropriate Category from the dropdown menu based on the Credential being submitted:
  4. Select the appropriate credential for each enrollee.
  5. If you are submitting less than 15 slots, click on add another credential and complete the same form with the next credential. Repeat until you complete your 15 slots and submit.

An employee can be listed for multiple credentials – ie: Level 1, 2 and 3 in the same application.

  1. Typically within 4 weeks of the submission of your application, the administrator will receive and email indicating if the application was approved and that you will soon be receiving an agreement that identifies the terms of the grant.
  2. Within 2-4 weeks you will receive the written grant agreement specifying the terms: Effective date (typically 2-4 months prior to the approval date), period (from effective date to 18 months from acceptance date), instructions for status reports
  3. Sign and return a scanned copy of the agreement to TechCred at the indicated email address
  4. Within 4 weeks, you will receive an email with a fully executed agreement. Make note on your calendar the dates of required Status Reports.

Status reports are required to be submitted six months from the effective date of the agreement and every 6 months thereafter.

Note: The effective date is always several months prior to the actual approval date.  This is because you can submit for retroactive tuition reimbursement for programs taken for a period of time prior to the approval of the application.

Mark your calendars to be sure to submit the appropriate status report for each round of funding where an application was approved.
