Phlebotomy Technician

A phlebotomist, who specializes in collecting blood for clinical laboratory analysis, is a critical part of the healthcare team.

Phlebotomy technician certificate

In order to apply you must meet the following requirements:

  • 2.0 GPA from your most recent educational facility
  • Successfully pass reading for critical analysis (IDS 102) or a score of 246 or higher on the ACCUPLACER test
  • A medical release from your physician may be required before you start the program if you have a medical condition that might interfere with your ability to draw blood

According to various sections of the Ohio Law and Regulations for Certification and Licensure Boards, persons convicted of any felony or a misdemeanor may not be accepted into a health program at Stark State College; may not be able to take the licensure or certification examinations; may be refused acceptance of placement by the clinical/practicum sites; or may have restrictions placed on their ability to practice.

How much can I expect to make as a phlebotomist?

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, in 2021 the median hourly wage for phlebotomists working in a hospital or private clinic setting was $17.97 per hour, median yearly wage of $37,380, while a phlebotomist working in a laboratory or a physician’s office could expect to make a higher wage:;

How do I become a certified phlebotomy technician?

Through the National Healthcare Association (NHA): In order to sit for the exam, candidates must meet eligibility requirements that include a combination of classroom instruction and clinical components. The exam is administered on a computer, and can be taken at any time for an application fee of $125.
