Thomas Chiappini inducted into 2022 Stark State College Alumni Hall of Fame

Tom Chiappini(North Canton, OH – May 26, 2022) – Thomas Chiappini, of Canton, has been inducted into Stark State College’s 2022 Alumni Hall of Fame in recognition of his professional and community achievements.

Chiappini, who earned an associate of applied science degree in electrical engineering in 1985, also holds a master of business administration degree from Ashland University, a bachelor’s degree in industrial technology from Kent State University and served an electrical apprenticeship at LTV Steel. He also holds a certificate in historic preservation technology from Belmont Technical College.

He came to work for the College in 2004 and currently serves as vice president of business, finance and information technology. A member of the executive management team, he has been responsible for accounting, finance, forecasting, strategic planning, construction projects, legal matters, property management, public-private negotiations, security and auxiliary enterprises as well as an annual operating budget of $70 million and capital construction budget of more than $36 million over a five-year period. He also served as the College’s interim president in 2011.

His previous positions include service at Canton City Schools, where he had roles as business manager, director and administrator of the business division as well as supervisor of plant operation and maintenance. He also previously founded QRM, Inc., an engineering and mechanical/electrical maintenance company; served as superintendent of maintenance at SIA America, Inc.; and general foreman of maintenance at LTV Steel/Republic Steel Corp.

In addition to his involvement in downtown Canton planning and development, he is a member of the parish council of St. Benedict’s Catholic Church, holds a patent as co-inventor of the triad adjustable goal posts at the former Fawcett Stadium and is a member of the board of Community Building Partnership. In the past, he has served on the board of Canton Tomorrow, Inc. and the Downtown Canton YMCA and the steering committee for the Canton Comprehensive Plan. He also was a youth wrestling camp coach.

Chiappini, who was a member of the 17th Class of Leadership Stark County in 2004, also received the Ohio Council of Vocational Education Outstanding Alumnus Award and was named a Distinguished Alumni of Timken High School.
